A bit of a longer post but wanted to share a recent experience. I picked up a pair of Ravello Kirkwoods a few months back, in which I wasn't keen on the commando sole. Had them re-soled to JR leather, and requested antiqued welts and edges with a local cobbler here in Chicago. The cobbler messed up the job and did not antique the top of the welts; I should have followed the advice of many SFers and used B.Nelson. After a few months of contemplation, I called Nick V. and commissioned him to replace/antique the welts the correct way and replace with dark brown Dainite soles. I had a little bit of frustration initially, as I waited an additional 2 weeks after the boots were promised (heavy volume in the shop). Nick was very apologetic, and I received the boots today (last picture with new Color #2 wallet from Ashland Leather). Overall, finally very happy with boots and Nick threw in a can of Saphir Reno for free!

Any reason you don't like the commando sole but do like the Dainite? I find them to be roughly the same thickness with the commando having more traction in slippery weather

Seems like a lot of work and expense to end up with a similar sole? Love the boots and wallet

I own both and like both. The Dainite, IMO, is more easily worn in settings not strictly casual.

    Nicely done.

Quite possibly the best ravello model, shoe or boot. :nodding:

    nephew,
from my experience, commando sole dainite sole or leather sole are equally dangerous on a wet marble floor

Just checked their online inventory. They only carry a D width. Looking for at least a E.

Not a fan of commando or crepe unfortunately.

Thank you to both for the tip!

My friend, I believe those are antique edge and welt. I'm guessing you were looking for a dark welt. (Leffot's Color 8 LWB with antique edge)

Anyways, glad you were able to acquire what you desire. Wear in great health... great boots!

Alden 974s. While I love my CXL longwings with a passion, these are quickly elevating themselves to my favorite office shoe.

Dunno why, but these look so unappealing to me in the pics on their website, but very attractive in your pics.

Maybe its the lighting? The edge trim and welt look natural and the upper looks more red than eggplant.
