1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

I would like the forums collective thoughts on the following. Tomorrow I am going to order a pair of Alden Shell LWB Boots with Commando Soles. My dilemma is whether to get them in Black or Color 8.
    Currently I own

Alden Shell NST/Tanker Boot Color 8
    Alden Shell Chukka Color 8
Alden Low Vamp Loafer Color 8
Peal/C&J Shell Cap Toe Boots about Color 4ish
Hanover Shell LWB (20 years old) Color 8ish (love them but they are ready for an upgrade to new LWB)

Hanover Black Shell LWB (20 yrs. old and kind of small on me, ready for an upgrade, I use these as bad weather shoes)
Allen Edmonds Black Shell Randolph loafer

I realize I need a new and quality black shoe or boot and I keep telling myself that common sense should cause me to order this new boot in black shell. That said, I can't really find a good picture of the boot in black and the pictures I have seen in color 8 are stunning. I feel as if I will be wasting $700 if I buy the boot in black and that it will be easier for me to find a suitable black LWB on eBay or the SF sales forum for less money.

    Please share your thoughts.

Get the color 8 version. It's a makeup that really shows it off. I'd save black for a dressier boot model like a captoe - DC's on Grant or the AOC version on Barrie. Or a Leffot naval boot. I think you want the color 8 and just kind of feel like you are supposed to throw a black boot in. I don't think this is the time though.

I agree. Black conceals the design a little bit. I prefer black on simple designs. That said I do see a Black LWB someday in my future. :)

Black. You have no black boots. You have 3 burgundy shell boots.

+1. Aside from SFTGs logic, I'm of the belief that all models that look great in Color 8 also look great in black. This explains why many of this thread own various makeups in both colors.

do you like both colors equally? if you do, please disregard the rest of my opinion.

    i prefer #8 to black.
I would buy the boots i like the best, not the ones in the color i'm missing.
i would also buy a 4th or 5th boot in my favorite color before i paid full retail for boots i don't absolutely love.

+1. Captures my thoughts perfectly. Related, when I think of a longwing, I always thing of brogueing going all the way to the back of the shoe. I've never seen this design in a boot. Can you share the name of the retailer?

I think he meant SW boots, not LWB.

Is that the same pair that you are selling in your blogspot or is that just a newer pair?
