1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Love to see a pic of those ancient J&M's. They're almost older than you.

Seems to be a fact of life with Alden lately. I don't think you should have to settle for poor QC on an $800 shoe but many will and Alden seems to know it. I am including myself in this scenario. I just received my preorder Tankers from Leffot. It was easily the most frustrating retail experience I've had, Alden or otherwise. To top it off, when I finally received the shoes, I had the same issue as you..... [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] Hard to believe that these were ever inspected by Leffot before sending them to me. But my options are to return them for store credit or keep them. At $800, those are hard options to swallow. Even more so considering that it's highly unlikely that I will ever purchase again from Leffott. But as others have said, we are all beggars and these boots won't come around for quite some time.

Those are your only two options given a defective pair of $800 boots? Store credit or keep them?!
I would personally raise hell over something like this.

Shawnc, that stain is awful. Obviously don't know your back story, but, given the options, I'd return for credit and get on the next order and/or contact Alden directly and make a stink. Do not let Alden talk you into sending them in for a dye job. Thats really a shame. Hope your holidays improve.

Agreed. You would think that each pair of boots would be inspected at Leffot for defects before being shipped. The first thing that caught my eye was the outstanding toe stitching on Shawnc's boots, but that discoloration would definitely be annoying to me. BTW, Merry Christmas shoe junkies.

    Merry Christmas to all.

Maybe some folks will be unwrapping some Alden shoes, valet boxes or other shoe gifts today.

Wearing black tankers on an airplane right now. Snuff suede chukkas in the carry on bag.

Those should be returned, IMO. They never should have left the factory. Talk to someone at Leffot to see if a refund will be allowed for this particular transaction.

    Guys,
I'm debating between the Plain Toe Boot on the Barrie with a double waterlocked sole or the Indy boot. Both would be in natural cxl. Which would you recommend?

    Sam,

They are both very nice boots. I would say that it comes down to your personal preference. I would go with the one that fits you better. The Indy is a classic Alden.

See, I agree with you all that a lot of these small splotches could be caught at the factory or retailers, however looking at how red the leather looks (almost looks like Color 4).

I would say there is a lot of light on the shoes. I do not think that they take them outside to inspect each pair in the sun. I can not say how noticeable that is in a standard rooms lighting. Also, there are people out there who would accept those as first, so maybe that's why they give it a shot.

Maybe we could somehow recommend a skylight be added to the roof of the factory right above their final inspection area. ;-)

    Merry Christmas,
    Mike

I believe Leffot basically turns around these Alden shoes right around when they get them preordered. Maybe that is not best practice. I have also found them to be very accommodating when shoes show up with defects, are missized, or whatever. Give them a call and see what they can do.

Finally decided that it was time for my first Alden. So I went to the Alden shop in SF and got me my first Alden Indy CXL's.

Given that this is my first pair of Aldens, I was wondering about these two spots on the boot, are they normal?

Also, I have some AE cedar shoe trees in there right now will it be okay to use? And how do you care for Alden Indy's?

    Gents,
Merry Christmas to my fellow forum members! Thought I'd share a few pics of my shell "family" with the other guys out there who appreciate their shell "families" just as much. Please excuse the sock fuzz on the carpet.
