    I have two cordovan Indy boots on TruBalance - cigar and whiskey... I find them to be very sharp boots to wear with denim that can span a variety of situations. It has a very casual but very sharp and refined look to it.

    The answer is easy WRT to the normal Indy boot. Mine is on a commando, and it is a great all weather / all condition boot (rain, snow, grass, mud, etc).

    Mine are black shell and I use them for similar purposes.

    I have no doubt it works for your stated uses. And I have edited my post to more accurately capture my point, to state: I don't understand the appeal of the overall look of the Indy boot* unless it is in shell cordovan ...

    Personally, I like the look of the Indy boot over Red Wings, Timberlands, or whatever other brand offers a similarly styled product. I also don't believe that everything has to be shell to be appreciated. Mine are CXL and wear great with denim and chinos, which is what I usually would be wearing. Would I wear a cordovan Indy boot... of course, but other Alden makes look better to me in shell than the indy boot.

    I didn't mean to demean your two shell Indies. I only meant to express my admiration for the plaza-lasted ravello Indy. Wear in great health my friend...

    I agree with this. I think that the Indy boot sold by J.Crew is a great casual boot. I am not a huge dress shoe with jeans on the weekends guy, but the Indy boot is an everyday shoe.

    No problem. For what its worth I had similar concerns about the cordovan Indy until I had a pair

    I totally disagree :) I love my CXL J Crew Indy. If anything you could make the case that it is odd to see a boxier workboot in shell than it is out of leather. I love all versions of the Indy including suede, CXL and shell.

    Agreed. Fwiw, I intend to use mine as a casual and work boot, but more for casual wear

    Haha. I was going to post another pic of my CXL's with denim and they look exactly like yours :)
