I like the look of the Lindrick with the exception of one thing: it has this extra brogueing line on the quarters. I'm not saying it's unattractive, but for me it's a bit of a departure from Alden's typical aesthetic when it comes to wingtip boots. Is anyone else's eye thrown off by the extra detail?

Not saying it's a dealbreaker, just something that might require an adjustment.

That said, they are certainly going to be an improvement on the AE calf option and quite possibly the shell one too.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

Get the brown shell C&J for RL Lindrick boot. It is one of the best looking shell boots IMO - regardless of maker.

If you get the AE Dalton boot, get it custom made in brown shell.

The sheet of ice on my driveway this morning was no match for my AF53's.

With the significant other issues and "how many shoes do you need for a lifetime" discussions around here...

CHINA - a 38-year-old man leaped to his death after an argument with his girlfriend who insisted they continue shopping. CCTV captured Tao Hsiao and his girlfriend in a mall in Xuzhou, Jiangsu province, east China where they had reportedly been shopping for five hours or so before he hit his limit.

Eyewitnesses said Hsiao could be heard telling his girlfriend that they already had more bags than they could carry, but she insisted on hitting one more store where there was a sale on shoes.
An eyewitness said: "He told her she already had enough shoes, more shoes that she could wear in a lifetime, and it was pointless buying any more. She started shouting at him, accusing him of being a skinflint, and of spoiling Christmas. It was a really heated argument."
The argument continued until Hsiao threw the bags on the floor and himself over the balcony, dropping seven stories to his death and smashing Christmas decorations on the way down. He was killed on impact.

This is just going to provoke many horrified thoughts as to whether he had a provision in his will for the orderly disposition of his Aldens.

EDIT: I wonder if he did? My god…

The amount of money we've each spent on Aldens should be enough of a suicide deterrent. I'm getting my moneysworth out of my shells, damn it!

Thanks for the PSA on the shoe racks. Just a few days ago I was looking at the Woodlore racks on Amazon for $25, and this is the same thing for less than half the price. I have been storing my shoes in the boxes for years and it's a pain in the ass to take them out and put them on every day, because I just have boxes and boxes stacked on each other. This deal was too good to pass up, so now I'll actually have easy access when I go to put my shoes on in the morning!

    Doc,

I don't like the brogueing on the ankle either. Many say that it gives it a similar feel to shoes, but I think it looks odd. I prefer the style of the Alden Wingtips or the Unlined AE Dalton. The color on the C&J's for RL is beautiful, but tends to be drier than Alden Shells.

    Hi Mike
Glad to hear it's not just my persnickety-ness. That same issue prevented me from palliating my brown boot- longing with a Trickers mto.

I'll gladly consider an unlined Dalton in dark brown shell. How does one go about ordering such a combo? Is commando sole or dainite an option?

Thanks for saving me $900-$1100 on the RLs.

Quick poll; does TSM have the best one stop online shop for browsing models and seeing various colors, leathers, soles and edges. I've been wearing my Indy 403s when I need to go walk a property and step in a puddle or other funk. Love the Indys but a little clunky. Trying to find something I can beat up a little but still have some style. Not crazy about the commando sole heal for what it's worth. Also not afraid of suede. Thanks for any input.

Doc, MTO is how you are going to have to do it. You can do any sole that they carry. I will PM you more details.

Curtousy of Steve (his Cyber Monday tip), I got my new Shell Wallet from Ashland today. I think it was called Italian Brown (they were sold out of Whiskey).

thanks. I have really come to appreciate Aldens. my collection is now over 20 pairs bought from European retailers mostly. i used to wear Tom Ford, Santoni, Churchs, Zegna & Hermes but really the quality cannot be compared. European shoes are slightly slimmer but when you get used to the shoe, the fitting & comfort are much better. which styles would you say are dressier & can be worn with a suit?
