You 2 are not helping. Let's pretend it's not as nice as it looks in the photos.
And yes, a sale would be nice.

Great boot - and on the Aberdeen last. :slayer: These are probably the single most comfortable Aldens - out of the box - that I own. A break-in time of exactly 0 minutes.

Same! The Aberdeen is a fantastic last. I need to find more boots/shoes on single flex soles. Leffot had their Plaza Snuff Wingtip boots. Hopefully they'll post a preorder for them.

On another note, does anyone know how double flex soles compare to the regular double leather soles? I'm on the preorder for the Color 8 Pitt Boot and was just curious. I imagine they would be more flexible right out of the box, but I don't know how much stiffer the soles would be compared to the single flex soles.

My only experience with double leather soles are the RL Marlows, and those were a pain to break in.

    Hi guys,

Can anyone tell me the difference in model name/number of these two split toe models? I prefer the model without the heelcap (ie below)

Does anyone know where I can get the lower model with a double leather sole?

    Cheers!

    • The first model is Color 8 Shell Cordovan NST Model #2210 on Aberdeen Last (It is also made on the Barrie Last but that photo looks to have the shape of the Aberdeen)
    • The Second model is Alden Color 8 Shell Cordovan V-Tip/Algonquin Blucher Mode #54321 on the Modified Last ( I have seen photos of a version of this on the Barrie Last as well, and it has been made on Truflare Last

As far as I know (and someone please correct me if I am wrong) this model is only made on a single leather sole, it is also made on a waterlock sole as well and would therefore have a different style number

The modified last is a unique shape that works very well for feet that are wider in front and narrower in the heel (such as myself) and it has quite a pronounced arch which might feel uncomfortable if the last doesn't work for your foot shape.

I would also caution purchasing sight unseen as many do not like the aesthetics of this particular last. I for one am a fan particularly in this style

As for finding a pair that can be quite challenging. I do know that Alden on Madison Ave stocks this model but I have no idea what they have available. Otherwise they tend to only be available in Japan and a shop in France/Japan named Anatomica. Moulded shoe in NYC specializes in this last but I dont believe they will be able to get it in Shell Cordovan. Google "Alden Modified last" and enjoy the trip down that rabbit hole.

If you are trying to find it on the Barrie last I believe Unipair sells it and from time to time Leathersoul stocks that model but it sells very quick

    Good luck

For that v-tip, the pic seems to be from the Armoury. http://ethandesu.blogspot.com/2010/09/coming-in-54321.html I know Leather Soul has stocked a v-tip in Hampton and Leydon last too. According to Tom, the cordovan on modified last is exclusive to Japan. See last comment http://leathersoulhawaii.com/2008/12/23/alden-shoes-the-cordovan-v-tip/

PSA: The armory is coming to NYC on 10DEC13. They are opening their first US store.
There may be another source for some great shoes and clothing.

    Hello,

I apologize if this is the type of question that's been beaten to death and people are sick of answering. I've done a fair amount of research and have found conflicting answers on barrie last sizing, was wondering if one of the many Alden experts that have actual shoe wearing experience could give me their advice.

It's about a pair of the Alden shell cordovan cap toe boots sold by J. Crew. They're on the barrie last. I ordered size 8s the other day but am now worried about the sizing. There are pretty much no retailers in my area that carry Alden shoes to try on. I asked people at both Alden and J. Crew who said 8 and 7.5, respectively. I would think the Alden rep's opinion would carry more weight, but basically now I'm paranoid about my decision.

For reference I wear the following sizes in different shoes that might help form an opinion. I think I'm the standard D width in just about everything:

    Clark's Desert Boots: 7.5
    Johnston & Murphy Dobson slip-ons: 8
Timberland work boots (they are the old ones that were still made in the U.S., I'm not sure if sizing is still the same): 8
I have a couple pair of Aldo shoes that are European size 40 or 41s
I had a pair of Frye Venetian loafers in 8 but they were too small
    New Balance 574 sneakers: 8.5D
I have some other sneakers by Asics/Saucony/Puma that range from 8 to 9 but I know this is probably of zero or little help

Do you think 8 was the right move, or is 7.5 more likely the correct size? Irritatingly enough, the 7.5 is the only size that's completely sold out, so I went with 8. I figured 7 would almost certainly be too small, but I'm pretty unsure of my decision in general.

If I am able to find someplace to try on a pair of Aldens, will anything on the barrie last be a good indicator, or would you recommend boot sizing to be slightly different than say, a wingtip? Should I use the standard foot measuring device (name escapes me) if I can't find any Aldens and go off of that?

Any thoughts or opinions are much appreciated.

    Thanks

Sounds like 7.5, but wait and see. Barrie boots can fit smaller than equivalently tagged shoes
