You know what, all you really need is one light shell (whiskey or ravello) and one suede, and you could really be done.

Thanks for posting MrDV. These are awesome. Do you find that you get the same use out of these, or do you get more wear out of the ravello?

Hill, nice looking collection. Let me see if I can guess a couple. Cigar and # PTB's. Ravello LWB. J Crew cap toe. Alden Kudu boot? Not sure about the brogue in the top right. Which one gets the most wear?

Looks to me like black, #8, and cigar shell LWB, cigar PTB, #8 J Crew cap toe boot, and maybe a plain toe boot?

Some sizing help is needed from the experts.

I recently purchased my first pair of Alden's (Shell Loafers on the Aberdeen last). I went to a local store, which carried Alden's, but didn't seem to move much volume or have a lot of stock. The clerk recommended a 9C for Shell Loafers and mentioned that sometimes it is best to go a little narrower with Shell (never read that here).

After wearing them for a very short period of time, the 9C shoes were too narrow in the front of my foot. I went back to the store and I hadn't creased the shoes, so they exchanged them for a 9D. The 9D is now slipping in the heal and my foot actually seems to slide forward in the shoe (when this happens, the shoe is tight on my little toe). I have tried tongue pads, but they don't really seem to help.

In my uninformed opinion, it feels like the Aberdeen Last (9.5 D) is:
    1. too wide in the heel for my foot
    2. gets to it's widest point further into the shoe compared to my foot (if this makes sense).

I really like Alden shoes, but it appears that they simply may not fit my feet (specifically in the Aberdeen Last). Any thoughts or advice? I have never really had issues with fit. I am a pretty basic 9.5 D in almost all Allen Edmonds shoes.

    Thanks in advance.

A common complaint about Aberdeen is that it is narrow in the toe but wide at the heel. This could be more of a last issue than anything else.

"Heel slippage", to the extent it occurs, tends to go away after a few wears (though I have never had serious issues with heel slippage). I am true 10E and Aberdeen in 10E fit me fine. Hope this helps

I have whiskey PTB's but wish I had held out for Ravello PTB's. Ravello is just so much more versatile IMHO.

I still wear the whiskey now, especially this time of year! :D

Shorts and color 8 LHS today. Tried to refinish the trim and make it look antiqued, but I think the brown I used is too brown.

I agree, lighter would be even better, but the brown that you used is still better than the black that they come with, for wear with shorts and no socks, IMO.

What color edge dressing did you use? AE Brown?
