I just bought some LHS Black Moc Beefrolls for a song on eBay. They have a curious "Biltrite w/Kevlar" sole. Do you think I'd be able to replace these with Dainite soles? Also did these Biltrite soles used to be a stock item Alden used? Thanks so much for any imput. These are my first shot at the Cape Cod Collection from Alden.

I would say a shoe just like the one you posted in your PSA would be perfect. I have a pair myself and they feel so light and flexible (for a pair of Aldens at least)

Double-soled shell LWBs are too heavy for summer wear, but e.g. unlined shell loafers are fine.

I am not sure the Cape Cod collection can be resoled. I would really like to know that. I want a brown chromexcel beefroll moc really bad.

Also, I would not resole those at this time no matter what. That sole is fine and it defeats the cost of getting a pair of shoes for a song and then dropping what the shoes cost to have have them resoled.

 no, more like 3 years ago at Leffot. Perhaps they were $1300 plus change? Sorry for the innacuracy. And yes, their current calfskin make-ups seem to be about $1195.00 On a more Alden note: I just received the Leffot Alden LWB in #8 w/ antiqued soles and love'em. Also a very "good" pair in terms of quality. I've been wearing Aldens for 25+ years and only very rarely was poor QC an issue. And then it was a simple matter to return them for a good pair. Regrettably this seems to have changed over the last 5 or 6 years pics: Alden Black shell WT boot on Barrie, hand sanded dble. sole edges stained walnut.

    Thanks for the reply Ahab!

The soles aren't bad at all. I sent Nick @ B. Nelson an email today and he said he could put on Dainite Studded rubber soles and heels for $155. That's a lot of coin, so I'm not doing that for a while. I got these Aldens though for ~$60 after shipping on eBay. The addiction has begun....

I really like what you've done with the edge trimming. It gives the boots a distinctively personalised character. Of course the blue laces are a splendid addition.

Yeah, why pay over double the cost of the shoes to have them resoled when you can wait and have it done when they need replaced? This pair looks so versatile and this is a good time of year to get them. I think Biltrite is a name brand shoe sole and with Kevlar? The soles of your feet are now more bullet resistant!

I like shell in black but at the prices I have no problem getting black calf. My black shell shoes have zero patina. I can get zero patina with calf.
