1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Excellent duo, kwhitelaw. Does Alden Madison Ave carry very many styles in store that are not on the website? Thanks.

My experience is yes, the madison store rarely, if ever seems to update their website. I scored both of my exotics from them on a cold call. I believe the cigar indys I was able to obtain were gone in 48 hours.

Yes, I've heard very good things about Shoe Healer and Richard. But their B&M store is up in Yorkshire, isn't it? Or do they have a store in London, also? Not sure I'm going to make it as far north as London on my way back, unless I can convince my sister/brother-in-law to take a trip up there. Thanks for the input.

The Galway does look quite amazing and other people have raved about this boot as well. I'll try to see them in person in London. Thanks!

    Random question/remark:

I found out that dark brown suede PTBs exist! I had only seen white, navy, snuff, and tan thus far, but apparently Harrison in AL has them, but I was able to track 'em down from the DC Alden store. Perfect for autumn and IMHO suitable for summer - basically year round shoes here in Texas!

If you like the Harlech, this thread may be of interest.
    http://www.styleforum.net/t/362536/crockett-jones-modified-brown-cordovan-harlech-mto

If you like the country boot style with blobby lasts that make the barrie seem sleek in comparison then Tricker's are for you. The AS country boots aren't bad but the country boot is Tricker's bread and butter. Tricker's also do sleeker boots like the Harlech but they're not usually standard production models. The Jermyn store might have some special make up though.

I'd personally concentrate on C&J but that's because my closet is already full of Tricker's.

Pricewise, don't forget to do whatever it is you have to do to be able to claim back VAT which is like 20%.

Without having seen it in person, I'm inclined to agree.

Thanks. I love 'em too. But I'd gladly trade them in for Halle Berry any day. Or night!

Thanks Mr. DV. I'm a nice guy in real life. Just ask my mother !
I don't have my Ravello SW boots anymore to compare these to, but I can tell you that I was looking back this morning of pix of these from their maiden voyage and they've lightened up faster and more noticeably than any shoe I've had. I'd say the #4 color has migrated to a #3!

    Yes sir.

Thanks for all the kind words today gents. For once in my life I got lucky. Sorry, twice.....just in case my wife is reading this board.:smarmy:

In this regard, I am inclined to disagree. The 9016 is as appealing (to me) a black bal as I've seen. It's dressy but adds a little character with the perforations. Normally I prefer color 8 to black, but something about the 9016 screams at me. This will be the first Alden model that I will purchase in black shell before color 8.

Leffot has a great looking plaza-lasted George boot tan calf. If aberdeen is an awkward fit for you, this is a great alternative even though it isn't shell.

Did you try asking Leather Soul? I bet they have the Defender and for sure they ship international.

Not sure that these have been "beaten up," but these are my most "lived-in" shell LWBs. I do try to care for them nicely though. Not sure if you would call that pampering.

Yes, but their sizes are pretty limited in exotic shells.

Oddly enough, I agree with your disagreement! As you know, I've got both the 9015 & 9016, I'm actually wearing the 9016 at the moment.

While I think the 9015 is the better choice for a one-Balmoral-only shoe wardrobe because it works well with both navy and charcoal, my favorite business attire combo is a solid charcoal suit with a shiny black balmoral.
