I've got to agree that the C&J shortwings look really nice. There are so many other great looking shoes available, Church's, Edward Green, and C&J just to name a couple. But until I find a brand I can wear all day and then go out dancing at night in, like I've done with my PTB's, I'll stick with Alden. For me comfort is key.

All this talk of exotic shell colors reminds me that #8 is still the king.

You can't go wrong with either the 403 or 405, but I personally feel the 405 is underrated. I have Leffot's version on commando soles, and it gets continued wear in the fall, winter and rainy spring. I recommend the commando sole on the Indy boots as it makes the boots lighter and more versatile

Getting back to that story about “Nice Boots – here’s my number”

Funny how that situation morphs when you’re married.

    Fast forward 10 years….

“Another pair of boots? How many is that now ? What’s the number? 5? 7? How many do you need?? And how are these different than the last pair? I just don’t get it. By the way, I need a check for $350 for our daughter’s ballet class.”

    D’OH!

I've found that my lighter color Aldens tend to get more compliments than darker shades, regardless of the type of leather used. For example, whiskey wingtips, natural CXL longwings, tan suede PTBs, whiskey chukkas, etc all grab a lot of attention. I would put the J Crew tan LWBs in that category (especially if you spruce em up with the kind of laces you have). Some of my cigar models (as well as the RL Marlow) also get compliments, but it is a subtler look.

Can't stand this, for multiple reasons with which I'm sure you sympathize. :brick:

But the pride and satisfaction you feel when you see her at the dance recital is almost comparable to that of unboxing new Aldens [IMG]

Not even close. Watching my 8 yr old daughter sing and dance before 300 people in a school auditorium is beyond priceless. Unboxing a new pair of Aldens costs $700, sometimes a little more or less. No comparison... I'd rather be a proud father than a proud owner of those J Crew Ravello make-ups. Both would be great though. [IMG]

The pride of watching your daughter is immense, I agree. Additionally, the pride of having my 6 year old son ask to shine his shoes along with me is quite nice :D

Ok, enough tears!!! They're causing water welts on my Cigar LWBs and I can't afford another pair, no matter what the price!
