1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Did you use that Rustoleum NEVERWET stuff? Sounds like a perfect application for white suede! I love it.

I have a color 4 PTB - vintage Hanover. I bought it NOS on ebay a couple of years ago for a song. It was a classic case of a seller who knew not what he had. Based on my research and some emails with Horween, it was most likely made in the late 1970's. Built like a tank, double leather sole.

For exotics, I prefer cigar and ravello over color 4. Color 4 is quite red. But it is unique.

While color 4 is produced less often than the others, and is therefore more rare, it is generally not considered the most difficult to produce - in terms of quality hides that are needed. That award goes to the much lighter whiskey.

I own various pairs from Alden SF that have that wording on the heel pad. And Alden does use the said stamp on its outsoles.

They may not always stamp "genuine shell cordovan" but I have a pair that has it. Alden for J Crew #8 longwings, unknown year.

Thanks...the last is perfect for this boot down a half size. Still plenty of room for a thicker sock in the winter. The deep coloring and sheen of the leather is almost like the bliss of staring into Color 8...very well done.

Are the Alden + Context Roy Snuff Suede Boots suitable for warmer months? It wasn't clear to me from the description if they were unlined.

I love my unlined suede PTBs for comfort in the summer. I love my cordovan boots, but they get too hot. I was wondering if the snuff suede Roys would be a little cooler.

    Thanks for the advice!

Send them an email to check if they are unlined. They are very helpful.

Gotta make hay while the sun is shining. Got a lot of work to get done in a short time frame. The overtime pay doesn't hurt, either...[IMG]

Exactly! I'll keep it stashed away till something major gets released!

hefner, I love my cordovan boots too, even in the summer. I've found that the key to happy feet while wearing cordovan boots in the summer is picking the right socks. I stay away from cotton socks because when cotton gets damp it stay damp. Very fine merino wool is super comfortable all day long, but some people just can't wear it. A couple years ago I needed some new socks for golf and discovered a fabric that doesn't itch, is really soft and cushiony, wicks away moisture and never feels damp, and is tough as nails. Bamboo my friend is a plant people have been making cloths out of forever. More expensive than a bag of socks from Wal-mart, but cheaper than your Italian wools and cashmere.
