Killin' it Repp, these are fantastic! Would you ever consider bar lacing?

I've found those whiskey wt bals to be a very odd fitting pair of shoes. I've owned two pairs over the years and got rid of both due to the facings touching (almost overlapping) when laced and the collars riding WAY too far up to where they dug into my ankle bones. I own other pairs on the Tremont, and they're actually some of my favorite and best fitting shoes. I've thought of going down an additional 1/2 size from my Barrie size in these, but I just don't think I'd have the toe room. No whiskey wings for me.

Could be but I have not experienced this. My FD's only have R for rejects stamped in the lining across from the style numbers.

Great whiskey wingtip Repp ! looks like a night for whiskey.

I'm beginning to become addicted. I started off with just the Cigar Indy boot last month, and now have the Whiskey LWB (they came in today from Alden SF)

Also just bought two black shells seconds from shoemart tonight (praying they turn out ok).

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone here for all the great posts, and all the great info. I've been chasing the Daytrippers, or any Ravello Captoe Boot. So any leads would be huge.

Does anyone know if Alden does the Wingtip Bal in Natural CXL or has a plain toe loafer in Natural CXL? I'm really digging the Natural CXL that has been posted. Anyways, its almost 3 am and I'm looking at Aldens online........ [IMG]

Do the oils in deer bones taper off over time? I've had one for almost a year now and it doesn't seem to be as oily as when I bought it. I store it in the same tissue paper in which it was sent by the Hanger Project. Could the tissue paper be the problem? The paper has become very oily over time. Can someone who owns a deer bone post how they store theirs? Thanks.

I store mine unwrapped in my shine box. I would think that the paper would draw any oil out of the bone so I would suggest not wrapping it.
No idea how long they last

Makes sense to wear your #8 PTBs with your 990th post. Assuming these are Aldens and not Alden x Brooks Brothers, your nailed the model number with your post count.

I'm going with the cognac plaza ptb s today I'd post a picture unfortunately I am unaware of how to do so. I must say the plaza works really well IMO. Does the aberdeen fit similarly?

InterlockingNY - that's very astute of you to notice that. Pretty ironic. Yep, the 990s are in full effect today.

Agree with all of the above. I think they will inevitably snag buyers that are loyal to the brand, who will unwittingly buy these not realizing that they could get a better value from Alden (or another brand like AE for that matter). I would be hesitant on these for a few reasons beyond their price. The don't look substantially different to make them a valuable asset over a comparable PTB from Alden or AE. I also have to assume that these are not made in USA, since they generally proudly stamp the ones that are as such. They also leave some mystery as to the "guts" of the shoe, and its construction. It looks goodyear-welted, but again, their made in USA shoes typically say "genuine goodear-welt" on the insole, which again, these do not. Even the ones that are made in USA and are goodyear-welted seem to use a paperboard insole underneath a leather wrapped foam cushion sock liner, which is substantially inferior in quality to a natural leather insole. In my experience, manufacterers are usually quick to boast about a shoe being goodyear-welted, so if it doesn't say so, there may be some funny business going on.

Anyway, that was just a last thought, since this is the Alden thread and I don't want to attract the Gestapo for talking about other brands. [IMG]
