1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Really? I saw the Natty CXL, but not the brown. H. Stockton's blog said they were exclusive, but then again, they said that about the opera slipper too, and NY and DC offer it, although maybe on a different last, and maybe not in calf.

However, I know that both of you know your stuff, so I don't doubt what you are saying.

Yeah, considering that most of my boots are engineers or work boots, this pair just gave me the fine balance between dress and causal. Add to the fact that I have been searching for a pair in sz 6.5 for some time now, this pair comes at the right time.

As this is my first pair of Shell boots/footwear, maybe someone here can advise me on what to do before I start wearing it? Should I apply any cream etc?

    Thanks in advance!

Thanks Roguls. Also for reference I heard back from Nick at B. Nelson who indicated that they offer the same waterloc sole and purchase from the same source as Alden.

I'm far from an expert but I would not apply cream to shell. I would brush and wear on carpet for a few hours before wearing outdoors. Google the 'Mac' break-in method. That's what I follow.

I wear a 8C Barrie and 8D in the AE 5 last. I am a 8.5C in the Brannock. The 8D AE 5 is a tad shorter than the 8C Barrie. I do feel that my left pinky toe hits the the shoe since my left foot is the longer foot (I'm 8D Brannock in the right). But since the AE5 is longer than the rest of the AE last, I can wear it. The AE 1 last for example is too snug for me. I have to wear a true 8.5C in that last. I think you know that the AE 5 is long and narrow so it affords a bit of length. You will see that the Barrie is has a more generous toebox so no toe issue here. But the width of the 8C Barrie is definitely comparable to the 8D AE 5. Also, the heel of the Barrie may even be a bit more generous. The 8D Barrie I can't wear. It's not even possible to keep my foot steady.

    Hope this helps.

Barrie is a tad longer but the AE5 is not far behind. Length are almost the same. But there is a big difference in toebox.

Heel and throat of Barrie is BIG even comparing 8C with 8D AE5.

I just called them about that a few days ago. I think he said returns are accepted within 14 days if shoes are like new, no creases or signs of wear. Best to call them to double check.

I love the color on these shoes. Is this normal brown CXL or something different?

The patina with the reddish purple makes me feel like I'm going to do fix up a car, or do something manly. Haha

Standard CXL. They have had Reno' on them a few times though. They are also almost 3 years old so there is some weathering/patina showing up.
