A high-quality leather upper welted to a spongy white and often disgustingly dirty sole looks terrible.

the alden crepe has a grey tint to begin with, its not like pure white crepe...

Like everything here, it's a matter of personal taste.

My disdain for everything crepe is legendary.

This won't change your mind, nor is it intended to, but this isn't exactly white.

Though it is spongy and, like any sole, often disgustingly dirty.

Im looking for an Indy Boot with the crepe sole, has anybody seen these? Closest ive found is the Roy boots from edit-Context

J Gilbert is doing a reverse chamois with the plantation crepe. I believe they're going to arrive in mid June. I'd call them.

The reverse chamois I am referring to are Indys. They took preorders several months ago- they were nice enough to change my order from reverse chamois to cigar just last week, so there is a spare 9E if you want it....

Damn, without the speed hooks aren't those a pain to get into?

I think the ease and usefulness of the speedhooks is over-rated on the indys. It's not much harder to get into them, and the few second trade-off is well worth it in terms of both looks and improved life of the laces. Also, I find the Alden speedhooks to feel kind of chintzy--they're not top-quality hardware. This becomes self-evident if you compare them to better speedhooks found on, say, a pair of vintage redwings.

Others, though, swear by the speedhooks. Fortunately, there are options for both camps. [IMG]

Both Alden's and some of the more dense white crepe soles (Church's, McNairy) are sweet. A good crepe sole shoe is can be very confortable and versatile.
