Curious, why can you not wear the barrie? I'm beginning come to grips with the fact that barrie lasted shoes don't fit my feet very well, the heel is just too sloppy. probably going to be letting go of my natural chromexcel nst soon, even though i love the makeup.

for others out there that don't like the barrie, what lasts are your favorites (fit wise)? i've gotten the best fit from the plaza boot.

Have you tried going down a width to counteract the sloppy heel? (I know C widths are hard to find)

I really can't decide if I should keep my size 8.5 color8 PCT from Jcrew or try a size 9. The 8.5's fit well but are a little tight across the top of the foot.

I have 8.5 indy's and they fit well now after break in. I just heard that shell doesn't stretch so I am guessing it won't get any looser?? Any truth to this?

How many times have you worn them so far? They can loosen up a little, but nothing like calf.

Edit: Also, your foot will sink in to and make and impression in the cork insole.

yeah, i tried tts length & down a width for a chukka. might have been ok after break in, but felt too narrow at the forefoot so i didn't risk it.

also, the heel cup on the barrie is not only wide, it is relatively shallow. maybe I should try the modified last. http://mouldedshoe.tumblr.com/post/24474857091/alden-barrie-last-and-modified-last-measurements

than if they are just a little tight, I would definitely stick with them. They'll probably end up being a perfect fit.

Others feel free to weigh in.

I have owned lots of shell and I do not recomend counting on it to give. If it is tight it will be tight for a long time - it might even be tight for your heirs.

Edit: I, like others, find the LHS tight across the instep. Thankfully I can wear them but it takes a very long time before the leather has given enough to make them completely comfortable. I would try the larger size and see if you like it better. One thing is true about shell --trying them on beats guessing.

Tonight I came home and there was a little bit of shelly goodness waiting for me. A pair of Alden for BB No. 8 tassels. I like the BB version better because they have the hand stiched heel counter. NICE!

These will be the last (no pun intended) pair for a while because I just got the Ravello shortwing (thanks to Sevenfold) and the Ravello PTB thanks to Alden of SF and a garrulous poster on this site.

I haven't owned a pair of tassels for years - first pair of shell tassels I owned I purchased the week my oldest daugther was born - they lasted 15 years and she is now closing in on 20.

just laid out full price for one of two 13D #8 cap toes left at JCrew. I hate myself so much for missing that promo, so it was the only thing to do.
