I have many of each brand.

But what exactly are we comparing:

    (1) C&J calf vs Alden calf? If so, C&J Benchgrade calf or Handgrade calf? Or perhaps C&J "Peal & Co." calf models? If, for example, we are comparing C&J Handgrade calf, and considering the price difference, it is not even an apples to apples comparision.

    (2) C&J shell vs. Alden shell? If so, the C&J shell models made for RL or the C&J factory stock shell models?

Uncle Mac is doing well. I believe he is just busy with other life activities.

it doesn't matter. in all cases the C&J has a much higher standard of fit and finish/QC. i'm not comparing durability... simply fit and finish. i've said it before, my english shoes look like they were cut and sewn with lasers. incredibly precise. new aldens come from the factory with major defects regularly.

If you mean the break-in method, it's not restricted to shell, if I understand correctly. It has more to do with ascertaining a proper fit and breaking in the soles in a gentle manner.

How do people usually size in the Leydon unlined relative to their Van, TB, or Barrie size? I'd like to get a pair of unlined chukkas. I am a TTS 11D, the TB fits me in 10.5D, the Barrie I take a 10.5E (fits in the forefoot but heel is loose), and the van I take an 11D (both lined andunlined). I've heard the Leydon runs narrow, so should I go 11E in an unlined Leydon chukka?

    it doesn't matter.

I disagree, but .... moving on.

We agree on much, as indicated below. :D

in all cases the C&J has a much higher standard of fit and finish/QC.

Generally, no disagreement here - but I have returned a pair of C&J shell boots for a defective finish. They retailed for $995. The return was accepted without incident.

i'm not comparing durability... simply fit and finish. i've said it before, my english shoes look like they were cut and sewn with lasers. incredibly precise.

    Generally, no disagreement here.

Agree. This is true - and that is unfortunate for all of us.

If anyone knows somewhere that has a indy boot in 7.5 E in black, please let me know ! A local store tried to special order me a pair and I believe they said its a 16 week wait. I don't want to wait that long, haha.
