I understand that shell shoes can have different colors, and my new whiskey shoes have slight different tints. Should I be concerned about the coloring within the white box? Thanks! [IMG]

I got a pair of indy 405's today, and have a question. I had the jcrew indy's in 8d , and they were too big, so I got the 405 in 7.5 but the inside says 7.5 B/D . Are they all like this ?

Looks like a problem with the piping. if the piping finish is cracked then i would send them back, if just color then no big deal.

    Don't like #8 in general?
    Or just the #8 LWB?

Can't speak for stevent but I'm not in love with #8 as much as everyone else is. I prefer a straight dark brown with no red tint over it.

#8 in general. Have bought the two LWB, LHS, captoe boot and returned / sold all of them. #8 just doesn't look good in my opinion. Much rather wear brown shades with jeans vs. burgundy and if I am more dressed up then black or brown shoes

Any ideas which shell versions you'll be going for first?

You have to earn color 8 - it isn't so special when it's new. I have some 1980's-era color 8 shells that have mellowed into the most magnificent shades of brown - similar to today's cigar but mottled chocolate with tinges of burgundy. I think aged color 8 looks better than my newer pairs of cigar shell. You just have to wait for 20 years or so to fully appreciate it :D

    That sounds so cool.

However since this also means I'll be 20 years older as well, I think I'll just take my time and enjoy life and watch both myself and my shoes slowly patina together.

FWIW, #8 is the classic color for cordovan leather -- that is, if you mention cordovan leather to someone who knows what it is, chances are they will be thinking about the #8 color. Some even refer to the #8 color as "cordovan" color.
