today i am wearing my alden x leffot blue suede tassel loafers. every time i wear them i am terrified someone will spill something and/or step on them. they're probably the only shoe i treat super delicately.

Not kudu, but I can share my experience with tobacco chamois. I got these longwings from Leffot last year. With the oiled leather and commando sole, I intended these to be fully a foul weather/tailgate/walk in the woods type of shoe. So with stylish function winning over form, I didn't spend too much time debating whether I would sno-seal them or not, as that has always been my go-to treatment for bulletproof footwear. As always, it did darken the leather and took away the cocoa-powder finish (it comes back somewhat, slowly), but I haven't had a damp foot yet in plenty of rain. Last winter was mild here in the northeast, so they didn't see much slush and snow.

For the sno-seal treatment, I usually put my shoes or boots in a 180-degree oven, smear the seal on the warm leather, put them back in, reapply to dry spots, and wipe off excess. With the LWs, I used a hair dryer and a toothbrush to work the seal into the whole shoe, paying particular attention to the welt and edge, the leather outsole under the arch, and the stitching on the soles. By sealing all the stitching that otherwise wicks moisture into the shoe, they stay nice and dry.

I have looked at kudu in-store, and it is certainly burlier (kangaroo, or some shit?) than the chamois. I'm sure a kudu commando indy would be a real stomper, but I like that I can wear the LWs almost anywhere. In fact, I would have gotten these if the Leffots hadn't come out when they did. Maybe I still should.

    The water beads up:
