How do you like them so far?

I'm also looking at a pair of the 40513HC Tobacco Chamois version.

It appears as these maybe even more water resistant.

I'd stick with the kudu if I were looking for a tough, weather resistant boot.

My "weatherproof" Alden boot is Leffot's Indy 405 on commando soles. I treat it with Montanta pitch blend. I find that when combined with thick socks, the shoe is great in all the conditions I have exposed it to (rain, snow, mud, etc).

So you believe the Kudo is better?

Can you expand on this a bit as to maybe why you think this might be?

Also, the commando sole does have a leather part - how does that stand up to snow/mud etc.?

The exposed leather portion of the commando sole hasn't been an issue on my commando-soled boots (AF43's and Ultimate Indy's). Judging by the wear so far, the rubber lugs are going to need replacement long before the leather or stitching become issues. And I don't baby my Alden boots in winter - these two pairs are my go-to shoes for bad weather in New York City (though I have proper waterproof Danner boots for more serious snow/mud conditions).

Edit: Not the greatest photo, but here are my AF43's after a day in the country last year, as evidence of non-babying. :)

Sometimes, not living in the US sucks. If anyone is willing to help me with getting on (= paying for) a Leffot navy suede LWB pre-order or knows a good proxy who is able to accomplish this task, please PM me [IMG]

Just ordered the Alden/BB unlined loafer in black :slayer:

I'm sure it will play nicely with its color 8 older brother.

I'm getting the Kudu Indy for my dad for Christmas. I'll pass on his feedback. He manages a transportation company and sometimes has to go out in nasty conditions (investigating an accident, for example) so after I gave him a 403 Indy, he's been asking if they have a model with a more aggressive sold.

    PM sent.

+2. Leffot seems very hit and miss (more miss, really) with their Alden makeups.

    Shoe tree question:

I picked up a pair of 9.5 c/e alden shoes a few days that I found in a consignment store (someone on this forum mentioned they looked like they are on the plaza last). I have only one other pair of alden boots which are a 9.5 B/D which is what I normally wear but the C/E width felt fine in the store.

When I got the shoes home I took the Alden shoe trees from my boots and placed them in the shoes I just purchased to clean them up a bit and I noticed that the shoe trees seemed to be pushing the sides of the shoes pretty hard..to the point where it looked like they would stretch them out a bit if I left them in.

Has anyone experienced this before? The shoe trees are standard width im pretty sure and dont push the sides of my B/D width shoes. The shoes dont appear to be narrow by any means.
Is the plaza last just much more narrow than the barrie?

    thanks for any info

Ha, thanks. The beauty of shell is that with a little brushing and a little Renovateur those boots go right back to looking babied. :)

Leffot is redoing the naval boot in color 8, last time I heard

Leffot does more suede, more crepe / commando, more loafers, more natural chromexcel, etc than I think is the threads taste, but I will put several of their makeups up as some of the best we've seen recently (ravello day tripper, ravello tassels, color 8 / alpine saddle, the Greenwich boots in suede and chamois, the snuff copely boot, etc)
