1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Yeah, I'm hoping I can abstain after the Leffot Naval boot. I will have black, cigar and whiskey by then. Any others will be MTOs from a company that still does MTO. I wish Alden would expand just a touch, or allocate more shell to the special order shoes/boots.

Ravello LHS and Thor Boot if it happens, then I'm done. Might even stop following this thread. I'm at the point where I have more dress shoes than I can wear, and there aren't any make-ups left that I really want. Maybe the Mocha Kid Suede Tassel...

I've been thinking a lot about this very issue of how to know when one is done gathering Aldens (cf, Freud's paper "Analysis Terminable and Interminable"). It's been a very expensive month after having been caught up in the wonderful pictures you guys have been sharing and in the exuberance we all have for these awesome shoes. I imagine my Alden collection hardly begins to approximate the depth and breadth of what you long-time aficionados have going on in the shoe closet, but I've already found in this short span of time that I have yet to wear through a complete batting rotation. Moreover, the Alden virus has not only decimated my former AE fever, but makes me feel guilty about skipping the red AE shoe bags every morning. How many of you guys actually wear shoes from other brands (and, no, the sneakers you wear to the gym don't count!)

Just curious, how do you guys decide which Aldens (or other shoe brands, for that matter) to wear? I feel like it's time to start adhering to going through the batting rotation just to make it worth the money spent.

That said, every time you guys talk about another fascinating makeup, I can't help but say to myself, "I could definitely make good use out of that. My kid doesn't really need a college fund, does he?"

Of course, this might just be my own idiosyncratic neurosis; but, I'd be relieved if I'm not the only one afflicted. [IMG]

I try to purge some Aldens periodically and will probably be putting up 5 or so pairs up for sale soon. I've admired some of the most focused collections on here. I've followed this thread enough to get most of my holy grail shoes, and I know what I like and what goes best with my wardrobe. Time to get rid of stuff I don't need and slow down the purchases

Rennavate, have you seen Rancourt's whiskey (they call it caramel) penny? In my opinion it looks great, and having pair of Rancourts (Eldric for RL), can speak to the quality. They are on my list to order in the spring.

Since you reference "Golden Ziggy," we can delve into the cathexis towards Alden :teach:

From Mon to Thur, I typically wear smart shoes (mostly bals, monks, boots from EG, C&J, AS) and Aldens or more casual shoes for Fri and the weekends. When it comes to which style/type of footwear I put on, it is secondary to the suit or outfit I have on.

I'm trying to follow this logic. It is sad my shoes don't get worn more, because I have too many. I have two brand new pairs in the closet right now that I don't want to wear until spring. Styleforum has been terrible for my budget, and I'm coming to a realization that I simply don't need so many shoes. And I don't work in an environment that inspires me to dress very well, which is tough. The only other gent who actually put himself together well at work was fired recently. No one even wears a suit - even the boss now. I'd like to put my three suits use more often, but it doesn't seem right. That being said, my overall style has condensed - I just love varying my shoes. I do have other shoes: Stacy Adams, To Boot New York and, most recently, Vass. Alden remains my favorite, because their ortho line (Trubalance and Modified Lasts) are amazing. I also love my boots from Red Wing, Thorogood, Chippewa and L.L. Bean. Aldens are becoming expensive, though. Some very serious options are now available at prices lower than Alden....

I don't see it as anti-cordovan talk. But the price hikes do sour the flavor a litle bit.
