I have all of these and I have to say that yes, the EGs are worth twice the cost. In general my EG crups are much better made and finished than my Aldens. I became fed up with all of the quality issues with Alden.

Here are the prices (for the above mentioned shell models):
    675 Alden
    850 RL
    1600 EG

I have had some QC issues with Alden, but I will say I had none with this Ravello model. I have had good experiences with RL and EG.

If forced to choose, however, I would take the Alden plus the RL plus $75 rather than only the EG. But that's just me.

All beautiful shoes in their own right ....

Contact Alden with the model number and take the guess work out of it. :nodding:

    Nice belts.

I too got my ravello matching belt from BB - last year (no longer offered). Strangely, it was advertised as British Tan, and it was anything but.

That pricing is correct, but it's for MTO crup EGs. EG Jermyn street also sells some crup models in their standard line-up. The cost is significantly less, though not cheap, ~1200-1300 USD depending on the exchange rate.

Don't want to crap the thread up with non Alden chatter, but for what it's worth, Vass shell is the best value bar none.

Nice choice for belts. The perforated one looks to be the Allen Edmonds Manistee. I have the set and they are wonderful matches for all the Alden colors. I have found them on sale every so often at ~70ish dollars.

I understood your post of "I have all of these" to mean the 3 models that were the subject matter of the discussion. Ergo, the prices given were for the precise models alluded to.

looks like a new 2nds list from TSM just went out...I have the lists for sizes 12D-13D as well as some narrow widths in 12-13. Any big-footed dudes out there PM me and I can shoot them over to you.

Revisiting a topic covered previously: Grant vs. Barrie.

Some people have found that they can wear the same size in both. It seems like the primary difference is a narrower toe box on the Grant last, forcing people to size up or go wider in the same size. Is that about right?

(There's a pair on the TSM seconds list on the Grant last that's my size in Barrie and I'm trying to decide whether to pull the trigger. With the risk being $18 the shipping and return fees, I should probably just do it ...)

It really depends on your foot. Barrie is about the perfect last for me. I tried even sizing up on the grant and the toe-box was still too narrow. No size will fit me. I suppose I can go wider, but then what's the point, I might as well get that shoe in the barrie.
