I totally agree with this. The heavier build/ look of Alden's double sole Cordovan bluchers suit my build. I have a suit drop of 8 and need somthing solid on my feet to anchor my look.

I also wear my shell shoes with denim or chinos 95% of the time. A blake constructed, calf bal would look out of place. And just wrong IMO.

I've also found that most companies like Carmina have very few "roomy" lasts available at any given time. Not to mention a poor selection of width options.

I really like the looks of G&G's, but as mentioned by Alcibiades, they aren't in the same price league as Alden's.

    I shouldn't have said I wasn't interested in a non-USA-made shoe; that was a blanketed statement and a xenophobic lie I regret.

If I'm paying full retail, I'd rather give my money to a company from my home country, unless of course there is something very enticing value-wise from other makers. Thus, my request for examples.

Carmina is still slightly more $ from what I've seen, and I'm not inclined to purchase a pair of double-monks anytime soon, unless there are tumblr fashion bloggers running around Portland I'm unaware of. I kid.

I agree on buying American goods to support our own countrymen and such, especially with the way the market is now. Carmina does some really awesome stuff. You can rock dub monks in PDX. I just stroll down Hawthorne or Belmont in a tailored full canvas suit with some burgundy dubs. Hell, who needs to fit in completely? [IMG]

    Especially in Portland, ha

I have JL, EG, and C&J (Benchgrade and Handgrade). And I do think that Alden, sometimes, has some QC issues. But none of that changes what I said earlier: Alden makes numerous models in shell that no one else in the world makes. So, if you want shell in various models, Alden's the only game in town. :nodding:

++++1 Preach it brother, preach it. Especially with you on the styling of the Alden shoes. No one, no ONE does it better. I have looked everywhere, seen every high-end brand, experimented with others and Alden is quite unique. If this is "GM" then happy to drive it.

My girlfriend bought me a Alden #8 cordovan belt, it was very nice and an excellant gift. Unfortunately she bought me a size too small. Upon trying to exchange it we learned that they are in short supply as Alden is seeking a new manufacture. So I have been on the hunt and happened to walk into the local Brooks Brothers today and found two that I liked and purchased.

With the Ravello Wing Tip = http://www.brooksbrothers.com/IWCat...or=Walnut&sort_by=&sectioncolor=&sectionsize=

I am really fond of the Ravello matching one, it is stamped Allen Edmonds - Made in the USA.
