Haha, I'm sure you guys are right. At $600+ per shoe, though, it would be nice to keep my collection at a reasonable, and not grossly unnecessary, size (hence trying to be strategic about acquisitions). Then again, even one pair of Aldens would be considered grossly unnecessary by some.

Anyway, I'll end the debate and make a purchase soon, and take it from there. And by take it from there, I mean realize immediately that I need the entire LWB rainbow. :)

:eh: ...you're not askin' for much eh?

edit: for those south of the border

Adding "eh" to a sentence can indicate the speaker's willingness to accept dissent or to invite further discussion. Has been referred to as an "articulated question mark."

Agreed. Tried on a pair of black shell LWBs recently to see what 10.5E felt like and they were really nice. It was one of those "Oh wait do I need to buy these?" moments. I can see some black shell in my future at some point.

Is that right, asshole? Let's see, you have 9,004 posts compared to my 62.
Why don't you find something productive to do other than bash well-meaning forum members.

As the original question-asker, I enjoyed thebeebs' response. Verbose, sure, but the elaboration was fine with me.

This description puts you in whiskey category and your choices will be limited. Indeed, as far as I know, you are limited to one model: the captoe balmoral in whiskey offered by Alden NYC.

    1. Color 8 - LWB
    2. Cigar - PTB
    3. Ravello - Cap Toe Boot
    4. Whisky - 2 eyelet Chukka
    5. Black - 6 eyelet Chukka
    6. Color 4 - Wingtip Boot

Partial because this is my upgrade path. Already have 1 and 2 down, 4 to go!

There have been quite a few #8 LWBs as expected, but I think everyone thus far has voted for the chukka for whiskey.

3 of the 5 are quite easy for me to pick:

    whiskey - chukka
cigar - LWB (with chukka as a close second)
black - perf captoe balmoral (Alden for BB)

The other 2, not so easy, and I can't say I have a clear-cut frontrunner.

I do agree that there would be no harm to double up on shell colour and/or shoe pattern.

I try to limit myself to one shell per year (unless the EXACT special make-up becomes available).

My plan has always been to have a different pattern/upper in a different colour shell before I double up. I've had to be patient, but that does not mean i've been close to puling the trigger many times.

my ideal (and actual) shell wish list.

    Black - PTB
    #8 - LHS
    Cigar - LWB
    Ravello - SWB
Whiskey - Cap toe bal (on the waiting list for my size)
    #4 - Nassau Blucher/4 eyelet (one day...)
