Living in the NW as well I wonder how many people wear their shells in the rain. I try to avoid it by checking the weather fairly regularly but that isn't always the best help.

doh...I guess I'm clueless sometimes. I had assumed they were in Carmel (as in near Monterey, CA). And there's not that much rain there; at least not like in the NW. It all makes sense now. Thanks.

Sorry to repost this but I didn't get any feedback because I think it was in the middle of a couple of huge debates in the thread. Does anyone have any input on the above?

I personally consider Chromexcel to be for casual purposes only. Perhaps others see things differently ...

i've never tried to get scuffs out of chromexcel, so i can't comment on that. however, i do have a pair of the leathersoul brown chromexcel wingtip boots, and they are very much casual. same with natural CXL shoes i've seen: definitely not as dressy-looking as calf or shell. this is my own opinion of course, YMMV.

Near perfect day here in Chicago. Drove by the Elston/Ashland intersection (the location of the Horween plant for the infidels* out there).

My window was down and their windows were open - aromatic, to say the least (based on the smell, I'm thinking Ravello...)

Actually, AoC is based in Sequim WA, across Puget Sound.
They're in the Olympic Mtns rain shadow and get very little rain especially when compared to Seattle.

I don't think twice about wearing my cordovans in the rain.
What I do think about is the sole material and if I know I'll be walking in the wet, I wear something other than leather sole.

Thanks for the clarification. I see you are from Seattle-ish. I was up in Seattle a few weeks back with my wife and we enjoyed ourselves. Much thanks to forum member 100yrs for some good shopping/dining suggestions.

It was rainy here in NYC today, I wore my cigar PTBs on crepe from Winn Perry (acquired from forum member interlockingny)

What's the best way to bar lace a 5 eyelet shoe (like the shortwings)?

Any chance to trot out that odd rain shadow fact about Sequim.
To the rest of the world, AoC is more or less in Seattle though.

If I didn't wear it when it rains, it would severely cut down the number of day I'd wear shell.
Hope you got some good weather while you were here. Weather has really sucked the past couple weeks.
