1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

I hear the BB PTB is on the M58 last and is TTS. In my experience the Alden for BB shoes are TTS but YMMV.

Nope: M-58 last (made only for BB as I understand it).

Some go 1/2 size down; some go TTS.

It is somewhat similar to Barrie.

Alden for BB PTB is indeed on the M-58 last. The M-58 last is very similar to Barrie, but perhaps a TAD more snug. Hardly noticeable in my opinion, however. I wear the same size in Barrie and M-58. I have 8 pairs on Barrie and two on M-58 and I'm 9.5D in all 10 pairs.

While we're on the topic of Alden BB PTB, I should also mention the following differences: Alden for BB PTB has no storm welt, thus has, IMO, a sleeker profile. It also has matching eyelet covers, as opposed to the blind eyelets on the factory PTB. These are a matter of preference, but all told, I'm a bigger fan of the Alden for BB. Some don't like the eyelet covers, but to me, once you wear them you will decide whether you like them better or not. I didn't like the eyelet covers at first glance, but now I love them.

Come to think of it, I also didn't like coffee, scotch, cigars or dark chocolate the first time I tried them, either.

Others may disagree and that's cool, too.

Perfect! Casual boot laces it is, good eye. A few pages back I said J Crew can piss up a rope and I'll never shop with them.. since then I have bough from them; 2 made in USA socks, Indys, Alden Shoe Trees, Timex Watch, and not laces.. maybe i need to re-evaluate them .

Hey guys, just recently found this forum and wanted to say hello. Love that this exists! My current Alden collection is:

#8 Wingtip Barrie Boots full eyelet
    Chromexcel Brown Indy's
    Suede Longwing - Tan

I am thinking about a pair of chukkas next and having a very tough time deciding between Ravello and Cigar. I do have a pair of Leffot natural chromexcel loafers so I do have some light color as well I know the likely response will be personal preference....but any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

    Uncle,
If you don't mind sharing, how much do you size down on the barrie last?

I put the blue j crew laces in my J Crew-Indys. I love the look. If I wasn't so busy/dirty making red velvet cake pops with my daughter I'd snap a pic.

Not to worry. As a father of daughters, I can unequivocally say your time spent with her doing such things is much more important than a picture of your footwear. :nodding:

Not that I know of. There are a few shops that sell a very limited selection of basics (e.g., Hanig's in the John Hancock building). May be a few others here and there, but I don't think you will encounter anything rare or unusual.

There is Haberdash, which also has a fairly limited selection.
