Yeah I chose the C&J Marlows for that reason. Don't like the sometimes green tone of cigar and the Marlows look a bit dressier as well

Also +1 to all the Alden of Caramel positive experiences. I haven't ordered anything from Adam but he is the quickest to respond to emails and always provides a ton of information. A while ago before I knew my Alden sizing I wanted to pick up a pair of Leydon shoes in normal width. Instead of just selling me the shoes and making some money, he recommended I wait for a similar makeup in an E width or wider last. He also considered a pair of Cigar LWBs seconds since the lacing area did not line up perfectly. Looking at my Alden's now, I should technically have two pairs of seconds by his standards.

Another +1 to AoC positive experiences. I'm sorry closerlook had a bad one with Adam.

While I love the love of my C&J Marlows, they fit me worse than my various Aldens. I'll still keep em though :)

Because of the recent discussion of rarity of shell colors, a question has come to mind. When it comes to the creation and sales of particular color make-ups in cordovan, does anyone know if Alden shops in particular (Madison Ave NY, Alden DC, Alden SF) have priority with the manufacturer?

I guess this would be related to whether those shops are owned by Alden itself, and I don't recall that information for each case. The logical consequence, if the shops do have priority, would be that one is better off checking those shops for make-ups in the rarer shell colors. Does anyone know? I appreciate the creative options offered by a number of shops, but if one is looking for something relatively simple, like a PTB, is it the best policy to check the alden stores first?

Re: Cigar going up in price -

I had this debate earlier in the year when I bought my Cigar LWB (used from forum). My wife was a bit hesitant to part with so much money, but having witnessed these price increases already during my time on SF, I told her it'd be the best deal to buy them now rather than years down the line because of how much they'll go up in the meantime. Already, suspicions have been confirmed. :nodding:

    It's all Obama's fault...

I hope not barrie; OG is on the Trubalance, and that's what makes it.

Alden on Madison claims to sell more Aldens than anyone in the world - I'd imagine that gives them juice. They always have rare shell colors. They are good guys, too.

Those are a huge win. I wish more Alden retailers would go with blind eyelets. Those could be shined up below suit pants no problem.
