Does anyone know of retailers other than CitiShoes that stock #8 NST shoes on the Barrie (model 2450)? I know TSM stocks them in cigar and whiskey.

i would send them to B Nelson in NYC, not Alden.

B Nelson does great work, and I have a feeling they would be less likely to label the shoes as "beyond repair" than Alden would be.

i asked the same question a few months back (NST on the barrie) and CitiShoes was the only lead that came up.

Thanks. Does anyone own the #8 NST on the barrie?

And the third - Joe - is also great to work with. Speaking of Joe, I ordered via phone the ravello LWB (antique edging; double waterloc sole) before they were even in their system. And they arrived at my door yesterday. :D

For this make-up, I think the top of the welt being dyed dark is a plus, not a minus. Just my 2 cents ....

I would take them to the Cobblers Corner in Northville, MI. I've been there and he seems to do a good job, he is also one of the few Alden dealers in MI.

I got some shoes delivered recently. Can't decide which ones to keep. Both were on sale.

Allen Edmond Strands on the left and some Alden Longwing's from J.Crew on the right. The Longwings cost me about $175 more than the Strands even though both were on sale ($225 and about $400 respectively after taxes). Both fit and look great. The first picture has a more accurate color for the Longwings.

    Any suggestions?

Given the Alden-nature of the thread, I think most of your answers will lean that way.

I personally though think the Strands look fantastic. What purpose are you buying for? Longwing will definitely be more suited to "casual" wear than the short.

Choosing just between these two, I'd keep the Strand. Admittedly that's probably the one AE shoe I covet. And there are other Alden LWBs out there that I prefer. Maybe get on the Shoemart seconds list in your size and look for a pair in classic #8 shell.

Comes down to your primary uses. The Strand is mostly a dress shoe, but can be business casual. I personally don't wear them for anything more casual than business casual.

Alden LWBs, depending on color, can be worn with anything from suits to Jeans. The color you purchased - with light edging to boot - IMO, is definitely on the casual end of the LWB spectrum, but, depending on outfit, could also be worn business casual.

    Keep them both. :slayer:

Seeing those side by side like that really shows the heft of the Alden gunboat next to a balmoral. Both look great. I would keep the Alden's, especially given the price you paid. Alden's at that price are harder to come by, whereas the Strands can be found even cheaper than the price you paid during certain sales. Pick up the Strands next time.

agree with this...if you want a more casual shoe, keep the LWB. I know some people wear Strands with jeans but I think that's an awful look IMHO. I don't think I would ever wear a balmoral with jeans, even if the other details on the shoe were more casual. Having said that, I do own a pair of Strands and I really like them, but only wear them with business casual outfits.

And the Aldens are probably twice as heavy, literallly.

The gent makes a very accurate comment regarding getting Aldens on sale.

^^ Yeah, given the price and that AE's can almost always be kopped for less, I'd say the longwings for now. Econ-win.

Doesn't negate the fact that I think the Strand genuinely looks more attractive, but all depends on what OP is needing them for.
