Having never worn the modified myself, I'm inclined to agree w/ Oxy on visuals. If it didn't have such a following, I'd probably totally discount it.

New natural CXL wingtip boots from Epaulet. Others are about a year old. Never done anything to them except for some conditioner.

Question - do I need to periodically maintain the leather soles of my Aldens?

If so, what should I use? Is Montana Pitch Blend good for that? How often?

These aren't my photos, but they look like the shoemart trubalance version with the addition of a rubber heel. If I didn't just buy some used 403s, I'd grab these for sure.

I'm pretty sure this is my first post on here. So hello.
The last few pages have had a lot of talk about plain toe natural cxl boots. And if anyone is considering getting a pair I say do it. I grabbed a pair of the natural cxl ptboot w/ crepe sole from Leather Soul earlier this month and I love them. Extremely versatile. I think blackish color of the crepe sole really keeps it casual, not to mention comfortable. I'm already rocking them more than my kudu ultimate Indys. They just seem to be the perfect companion to dark denim.

^^ i like the aesthetic of the 360 welt over semi-closed welt.

I think what appears to be bulbous is actually just the 270 welt of the Modified version vs. the 360 welt on the Trubalance version. Especially with the angle, it's really hard to judge.

gnatty8 posted the modified version earlier in the thread (they look sorta bulbous to me):

I have the Sloat boots (plain toe natural CXL) from Unionmade, and fully agree with the above. Not sure there is a better companion for dark denim. Particularly like the way the my slubby Pure Blue Japans work with these boots. Organic.

I have the cap toe version and to say I like them would be a gross understatement. As far as casual boots go, I think there's nothing better.
