Update for people with NRO orders -- I put in my #8 LWB order on Tuesday and received them today, superbly fast shipment!

Just wondering if others could take a look and share their wisdom with me too :)

Yeah see that's what I was thinking too - does anyone know how differently the two shoes would feel even though they are on the same last? I am under the impression that anything with a captoe would fit snugger? I've never tried the Chukkas on either.

I'm trying to dig up pictures of black shell LWBs but I can't seem to find anything but PTBs and Chukkas haha.

Tom Austin had PTB's in shell in selected sizes as well as LHS, etc. No fancy colors in shell, just black and #8. Do you feel lucky?

The brown are calf, the tobacco are CXL. I know 'cause I've owned both pairs.

Maybe I read your post wrong, but J.Crew only carries D width. That being said, the cap-toe boots are the way to go. I have them and they're great.

I think you could probably find something, they had a lot of styles. Things I remember seeing were: kudu indy, monks (black & #8), shell medallion captoes (black and/or #8), #8 ptb, black and #8 chukka (I tried on a #8 8C, I think he said he an 8E as well), quite a few loafers, leydon snuff suede chukka, #8 lwb, #8 balmoral wingtip (974). I'm not sure that even captures half of what they had.

I just wanted the LWB as I prefer dressier shoes in calf / balmorals. Just called and gave the codes for the shoes (like 975 for LWB)

I recommend the #8 chukkas as long as you have a good fit with the barrie last--the barrie chukkas can be pretty loose compared to other barrie shoes since they only have 2 sets of eyelets.

thanks man, i hadn't even considered most of the models you mentioned. the brown cordovan chukkas especially sound like they'd be useful. thanks!

i just asked what they had left in a 9-9.5D in black shell. he asked for a style # and i just told him something wedding appropriate and he got back to me with what was left in stock.

they have these captoes in a 9E or 9.5E in the aberdeen
    http://www.theshoemart.com/alden-me...ld_m_straight_tip_blucher_shell_cordovan.html

i know 9.5E is too wide since i had a pair and sold them
im a 9.5D in aberdeen and leydon. think a 9E would work the same? i wear a 9D in the barrie
