Just wear them. They'll stretch comfortably after a few wears.

Tell me about it. I also wear an 8.5D in the Van Last. A size 8D in the barrie were just too long for me and 7.5E fits great in both length and width.

It all really comes down to your foot shape, which is why I think taking the time to go to a shop, or to deal with a retailer with a good return policy is the best for someone new to the brand. How many guys (myself included) do we see with shoes/boots in the B&S forum who didn't get their size right and had to sale for a loss bc of the lack of a return policy?

If you plan on wearing the LWB with dress pants (navys, greys, etc), ravello is the more versatile choice. Cigar is also a great choice for this purpose.

As mentioned by some others, though, whiskey, when done well, probably has the "most impact" of all the shell colors. You should own one whiskey shoe. A LWB is an great choice, as are the Indy boot, the PTB and the chukka boots.. (the longwings and PTBs are the most readily available IME)

Have any examples of whiskey done well? When they arrive, I plan on wearing my whiskey indys with some darker raw denim (eternal 811). I don't wear suits or any dress attire really.

Ok - so I got some trimmed tongue pads placed into my Ravello Shortwings to take up some of that room in the instep, as I have a low volume/instep foot.

Just wondering how many wears it will take (and for how long) until the sole softens up so I can get rid of some of that heel lift, I'm pretty sure these are my first double leather soles...

Just received my Indy's back after they rebottomed them. They also replaced the the eyelets on the boot as well; as per my note in my discussion with them over the phone. In addition they replaced my busted shoe lace and sent me two pair of replacement laces for my #8 Cap-toe. Though they sent me the wrong laces as these are waxed round laces instead of the waxed flat laces.

Can post pics of the work if there is any interest.

All in all I"m pretty happy with the speed of the repair and their looking into the further issue of the eyelets and addressing that problem as well. It was only a 3.5 week turnaround.

Now somebody buy my #8 Cap-toes! They are languishing in my signature!

I sent them to Alden since this was a factory defect. I had a problem where the sole was separating from the upper between the welt and the upper. Also I had a problem of the eyelets (not the speed hooks) starting to pull through the leather. They also replaced the heal of the insole.
