I would go 8.5D and wear thin socks if need be. These do loosen up as the insole molds to your feet. Adding an insole to take up volume in this model is pretty much impossible, so be sure not to go too big, as there's really no fix. Tongue pads feel awful on the Lhs, too. 8.5d, no question.

I know that Brooks Brothers offers the LHS unlined in #8 (and i guess their madison ave store occasionally has an unlined whiskey LHS), but does anyone else offer unlined Shell LHS in other colors like ravello or cigar?

I don't know what I'm doing but I took a flannel cloth and a small small small dab, like a lil elmers glue dot. Then rubbed it into the creases of my aldens because they were looking a little dry after 20 wears. Then took another dab and did the toe cap, then the sides of shoe.

On shell cordovan, you can just wipe with a damp cloth then buff with a brush and also with a dry cloth. A lot of what people tend to think is dryness is actually built up wax in the folds. So simply buffing that off will instantly make the shell look better. This is like 90% of shining shell.

Ah okay true. This is a new pair though that I wore about 20 times, so it couldn't possibly be paste wax. I read that Saphir Reno also water proofs the leather just a little. I use like two dots of it on the whole boot, not sure if i can tell a difference. Letting it dry then going to hit it with a brush.

They wax polish them at the factory as the final step before packing the shoes. Usually after folds develop, there is some serious wax build up in the folds.

It's not going to hurt anything. But the wax built up that is there will come back soon. Until most of it is gone, it will continue to look white in the folds after wearing.

Next time. try buffing with a slightly damp cloth and then dry cloth and brush, i think you'll notice an increase shine.

can anyone tell me if the Alden brown leather chukka is CXL or normal brown calf leather?

I have an option to buy a used pair of the LeatherSoul Alden CXL chukka boots for $250 (quite a bit of wear on the leather, needs some work) or Alden 2nds Brown leather chukkas from shoemart (not sure if these use CXL or not) for $300

Any advice on which direction I should go would be great!

I'd get seconds, usually defect is not that bad and will 99% of the time be better than well used shoes

I've ordered Spahir products from On the Fly which has a store in the Embarcadero Center in SF. Here is their website:

I can't believe I've never heard of them. Looks like an interesting store. I'm going to have to pay them a visit sometimes soon.
