    Looks excellent. What makes you think that you need toe and heel caps? Have been wondering how to diagnose whether or not I might need them as well.

    Breaking in my second pair of Indys...odd crease in the right toe though. The "pen trick" seemed to work well on the left boot, but the right...not so much. The shell seems to fold sharply on this side. Anyway, just wanted to share.

    How long ago did you send the emails? I usually hear back from Alden within two or three days. I emailed Horween over the weekend and received a reply first thing this morning.

    so far so good. White suede suede can look really casual and since its a summer boot, its perfect. I dont mind scuffs or stains.

    Note - I did apply some silicone suede water repellent solution. A must for suede

    nothing at all. not even a single application of venetian and yet the leather shows no signs of cracking or abnormal creasing.

    That's pretty impressive. Congrats on your "new" pair. Wear with health.

    For my first post I am looking for some guidance on my first pair of Alden's. I am in "need" of a pair of Alden LWBs. Choices available in 8D are;

    Cigar shell with dark edge sole. I would much prefer the antique edge.

    Burnished tan calf with light edge. Like the color and sole but I'm afraid the calf lacks the depth and richness of the shell.

    And finally #8 with dark edge. Again would prefer the light edge and I think I want the #8 in the NST boot.

    I am looking for a color that pairs well with light gray. I don't want to change the direction of the discussion but this is to dress down a light gray suit for a semi casual, early summer, northern Ontario, family wedding. I think the tan would be best but I really love the character of the shells and want the cigar to work. 90% of the wear will end up being at the office with jeans.

    Thanks,

    Jason

    Sounds like you really want the cigar shell. And light gray is a flexible color; you have a variety of options for shoes, shirts, ties, etc. If that's what you want, go for it.
