One of the things the Roy's have that these others don't is the chromexcel leather. The only other boot out there (that I know of, at least) whose styling I like in this leather is the new chromexcel indy. If you already have an indy or two in rotation, but want a great looking and great wearing boot in the pull-up leather, the Roy is one way to go.

correct the leather is wayyyyy nicer ... just wearing them and the look, i couldnt justify the high price tag

I got you. Thanks for the info guys. I'm pretty sure I'm still going to get the Roys. I'm actually looking for a simple plain toe boot and I've never seen Red Wings that look like this after some wear... [IMG] [IMG]

Quick question: When I wear an 8.5 E in the Leydon last, would I have to go for an 8 D in the Barry or would 8E fit? (I ve got no possibility to try anything on since I order from europe.)

just learning from folks here, Leydon is mini-Barrie ... so, i think, Leydon 8.5E = 8E on Barrie.

That's the beauty of the chromexcel. Actually, that particular pair of boots has been both admired and criticized. Criticized (with good reason imo) for being basically mistreated. They were purportedly worn for 30 days straight and beat to hell and back with no rest. Supposedly, they were only 30 days old at the time the pics were taken, which is a little extreme.

I'm betting the boots would look better if worn hard, but smart, over a longer period of time--and put into rotation with other shoes. Instead of looking like they'd been run over by a semi, they'll look (and feel) comfy and sweet.

As far as the plain styling, yup. They're simple. They're plain. I think it displays the interest of this particular leather--the shades of reds and browns and blacks that develop--to good advantage.

Did I say 5 orders? I don't remember. Bottom line, if I like the idea, I'll make it, regardless if there is interest or not. I've made shoes in the past because customers gave me their ideas and I liked them.

Please keep in mind, the choices are very limited. Alden is pretty conservative when it comes to makeups. Plus, stuff like cigar, whiskey, and ravello are pretty much out of the question.

+1000 - I recently requested a one-off for myself, and Tom immediately proposed making it part of his next pre-order. This has the advantage for me of getting the boot much faster (one-offs can apparently take as long as 2 years to be fulfilled, while pre-orders take 3 - 6 months), and the advantage to the rest of you of giving you access to a cool new Alden design. I like to think of it as the LS X Atlas boot - snuff suede, wingtip, barrie last, regular welt, double leather soles. Keep an eye on Tom's blog for the pre-order info!

So, if you have any ideas for shoes or boots, send them over to Tom and maybe he'll make them up.

So I used some neutral polish (Kiwi) on my Black Indies for the first time and about an hour after doing so, they developed a whitish haze on certain patches.. [IMG]

Anybody have any ideas WTF just happened?

yeah use shoe trees and preferably a shoe horn

obviously dont use cordovan wax since urs are calf. just use black polish or shoe cream

yeah, the new leather is less capable of absorbing the polish/cream still. i used Obenauf LP on mine, blowdry and then wiped off [beading] excess. wore them a few days , then repeat the process ... only this time, after wiping off the excess, i applied a thin layer of Kiwi neutral cream and buffed when dry :: black polish/cream will fcuk up the [white] contrast stitching.

Those are beautiful- Is their true color dark brown? On the Winn Perry pictures they look kind of grayish...

    Fit pics would be great

anyone have experience with the van last, specifically on a shell LHS?
have read its recommended to size down 1/4 - 1/2
anyone with firsthand experience on how it fits relative to others would be greatly appreciated
    TIA
