I'm not sure about the reverse split welt question. I believe that the storm welt is sewn to the upper but it's on the inside of the shoe and is just one strip.

do you guys typically wear the same size in shell as calf? (for the same last/shoe)

My brand new shell Indy's seem tighter than my 403s. difficult to tell if it's b/c the shell is so stiff...

My experience is that shell fits looser when new so I suspect what you're feeling is due to the stiffness.

All of my shells feel the same as my calf.

How do you fellows care for your Aldens? I apply the leather cleaner and neutral wax every ~5 wears. I have other waxes, from Alden, in burgundy, brown, etc. but I haven't used them yet. I'm kind of scared they might darken the shoes/boots.

I also watched a care video from Crockett and Jones and they suggest using neutral creme/wax on the leather sole as well. I have never done that before, but I'm thinking about it now.

I purchased a brannock recently. Do you guys typically go by exactly what`s said on the brannock for Alden`s TTS sizes like the plaza last? Reason I asked is that I have a LSH cap toe on pre-order and this is the first time I am using my actual brannock length and width for alden and I have no other alden shoes to use as basis

"Yes, but...". I would take it's width measurement with a grain of salt - think about the circumference of your instep and ball, as it only measures one dimension. I think its heel to toe and heel to ball measurements are good to go. My example:

    L:
    -heel to toe: 12
    -heel to ball: 13
    -width: B

    R:
    -heel to toe: 11.5
    -heel to ball: 12.5
    -width: B

Ended up figuring out a 12.5 C in Plaza will work, 12 C in barrie. No wonder its been so hard to find shoes that fit...
