1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

    Cheers,

By applying #8 / Bordo / Bordeaux polish to a cigar shoe, would one get a muddled mess or eventual patina similar to that color ^^^ ?:nest:

Wow, I didn't even have time to check with my wife! My size vanished into thin air. It's probably all for the best anyways...

If you follow the posts you will see it is no longer about the guy's shoes. Let me break it down for you.

    1. What the original poster/owner of the defect boots does is his own choice and none of our business. Full refund? Great.
    2. The question that was brought up by Ahab's post is what responsibility any retailer has for manufacturer defects. Ahab posited that no retailer should be required to open a shoebox and actually look at the 600+ shoes/boots before sending them off to the customer. The analogy of shoes to plastic-encased nuts and bolts from Home Depot was made as a defense.
    3. I disagreed and felt any retailer should at least pop the box open and do a simple inspection. Do all retailers do this? No. Do the best retailers do this? Yes.
    4. At the very worst, a retailer will offer to refund the buyer or simply assist with routing the shoes back to Alden for fixing. This has been the case with most Alden retailers I am familiar with and it sounds like the case here.

Let's move on to more shoe porn.

Question: I'm boxing up my Indy's for the summer. Is it advisable to store them in the green Alden box w/ shoetrees placed? Or would something lighter like newspaper do just as good a job? I normally tree the boots during wear-seasons, but in storage?

yeah, I was told these can't be fixed, which seems to go against what others here have imparted of their own experiences.
barring that I was offered a full refund, but I would feel like a shit having the retailer take the loss. can i expect him to take every pair outside into the sunshine. I think not.
they have been really good to me too in other ways; I can't justify seeing them take the loss.

i can however justify Alden taking the loss and I am still considering this. the retailer seemed to think that alden wouldn't do anything but said he would contact the rep and see what he thinks. we took a picture, so i am curious to see how this plays out.
i am sure that if i call alden and express my dissatisfaction they would do something.

I rather like a softer sole on suede shoes. Red brick looks great. I mean, suede is more casual than other materials. We're not talking about wearing them to a board meeting. In addition, sometimes you want the added capability if you're going to be doing a lot of walking or going off road, say an outdoor concert or party. The suede LWB with leather soles look great, no dispute, but I'd like to have a pair of these in my armory. They'd look terrific with old, faded Levi's.

wouldn't the retailer only lose out on profit if you returned it? He wouldn't be taking a loss. I'm sure the retailer could get reimbursed from alden for the irregular/defective shoe.

When I box mine up for long periods, I usually use newspaper or tissue paper. I feel that as long as I stuff the paper in there tight enough that it would perform as well as the shoe trees. If you are concerned about having the advantages of cedar, you can always go to the hardware store or Bed Bath and Beyond and buy a small cedar block to add to the box to help deter insects and draw out any moisture (of course, your boots should be thoroughly dry and aired out before you pack them up to begin with).

Of course, that's just my opinion and I am sure there are some folks on here who go to much greater expense and effort when storing their shoes/boots for a season than I do.

    a set of hammers lol
home depot sells much more expensive products than hammers or your boots lol
boots are just for your feet lol
you stand in urine while wearing them lol
people get caught up in the price more than they should lol
if i put lol behind everything i say it makes me look smart lol

But seriously, you should have taken the full refund. I doubt the retailer would eat that cost. Just because you think something costs a lot of money does not mean that everyone think that it costs a lot of money. As you stated you did not even see the problem until outside so I am not sure why people expect the retailer to catch everything. They just deal with what they know about. Approach the retailer and see if you can get a replacement pair or a refund.
