I'm not sure everyone agrees on that one. Some people take their Barrie size.

Why does Alden of Carmel charge more for the same shoes than their competitors?

I'm gonna check the AS trunk show in April. I had the impression they were priced similar to EG but apparently they are not.

They have their "handgrade" and "exclusive" ranges. The handgrade ones are very expensive, and are not what I'd want for an Alden type shoe. The exclusive range shoes appear to be a good deal better finished than Alden/AE and those are the ones that are around $600 for Shell MTO.

Last I heard, AS upcharge for shell was around 200gbp.
Exclusive grade MTO was something like 385gbp for calf.
Not sure what the current price is for MTO but there was talk of it going up to around 500gbp..

I'm not sure if the 200gbp upcharge included VAT.
The 385gbp price included VAT so something like 320gbp without.

Not excusing it, but I'm sure there's a great reason for "all the imperfections' we're seeing here. Lets think about it, we are a small group (despite what some people thing, 95% of Alden shoe customers are not on, nor have they heard of Styleforum). MOST of our experiences seem to be good ones (I have a few pairs, counting lightly, and the 2 that had issues were fixed by Alden quickly and well), so i assume most of the rest of Alden customers have the same. And lastly, we have an appreciation thread with 22,000 posts in it. Of those most are anecdotes of how happy we are with our shoes, with the occasional malfunctioned pair.

Yeah I've sen your fits and they always look good. There is a pair that should be my size at Alden of Carmel overstocks and I've been needing to upgrade my black dress shoes (To Boot from pre SF days) but given that I don't wear suits much saw no need for a more formal shoe. Tempted to just get them at the current cost. Need to make sure the Leydon last will work for me though

Edit: we will see this weekend. The Giants are red hot right now and way healthier since the last time we beat you guys. I'm hoping for heavy rain and 30mph winds :cloud:

What about Trubalance vs. Leydon sizing? The size chart from NAMOR's sig says you go TTS? I'm a 10.5 on the Trubalance with wider feet.

If AS shell MTO is really only $600 then I definitely will look into that, but it almost sounds too good to be true. Maybe $600 for calf would be more realistic, with shell being slightly more expensive.

I think Barrie size = Trubalance size, so I can't really say much.

I have really narrow feet and don't care for the Barrie last. I probaby would need to wear an A width in the Trubalance, so I haven't even bothered to try on a pair.

There was a recent post on MC and on AAAC where someone was showing his MTO #8 shell monk straps. He's the person who told me "around $600". It might have been $650, but even at that price it seems like a good deal.
