1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Picked up a pair of LWBs, shell, #8, from the Alden shop in NYC, and was told by the salesperson that the shoes had been polished after being tried on by another customer, and that there was a build up of polish (Kiwi cordovan) on the shoes as a result. He gave me a small discount on the shoes, and threw in a tin of the same Kiwi cordovan polish.

What's the best way to remove the build up of polish? It isn't too obvious, but it just means that the shoes don't really shine as much, and look a little dull. Should I just brush them with a stiff horsehair brush?

This is for trunks and the other kids who bought the Ravello Shortwings from LS. I've worn mine probably 4-5 times now... I am not sure if I should get a rubber top sole, thoughts?

I would employ the Mac method. Wipe with damp soft cloth, brush till your arms hurt. Repeat as needed. I'm not exactly sure what you mean but I wouldn't use a "stiff" horsehair brush.

Those are ravello? Wow  they look like #8. Maybe it's the lighting at dusk.

Nothing against your pic but I hope my ravello is a LOT lighter than that when it gets to me.

Can't you get a suede chukka in an E width from one of Alden's stores? I'm pretty sure Alden SF and possibly even TSM stocks E widths in these without having to do a special order. And with respect to the color, I think both look great and it all depends what you have more of a need for in your wardrobe. I'm still debating getting the snuff suede chukka, only because I already have a sand suede LWB on the way, and I really have no use for 2 different sand suede shoes.

ORLY? Any spoilers? These SWB's are great, but you have the chestnut Carmina shortwings from Epaulet right? Those seem relatively similar to these.

I love the color in this picture [IMG]. In reality, how often do we wear shoes where we're outside in the middle of the day where the lighting is perfectly bright enough to view the true color. I guess I usually wear my shells inside or in the evening.

If you typically wear yours in lots of daylight, I suspect your ravellos will darken significantly over time. In this case, you might want to consider whiskey shell.

I'm definitely on the pro selvage cuff route, but for my own taste, i prefer to actually cuff the top part of the roll back into the cuff itself so you don't see the chainstitch or finishing of the bottom of th jean.

I think it looks a little cleaner, but again that's just my take.

I do...just something about the Alden aesthetic...a bit more to the shoe in the forefoot that makes them oh so nice. I do love the Barrie last.

Ravello seems to vary more than the other rare Alden colors. I personally really like the "dark" ravello as exemplified by the tassels. "Light ravello" can be closer to the LWB below:

EDIT - I actually plan on trying to darken those LWB over time using wax polish... Right now I am using some Saphir mahogany, but I may need to go darker
