Yea, this is true. However it would be nice of some of the nice LS makeups were available in E widths so I'd have a shot at them.

As mentioned earlier in this thread, prices have definitely gone up after Christmas. It looks like a flat $30/pair increase but not on all models at all stores. Of the ones I have been tracking:
Suede LHS have gone from $436 to $466 everywhere
Ravello and whiskey LHS went from $654 to $684 at Alden SF (still $654 at Shoemart)
The cigar/ravello/whiskey LWB went from $680 to $710 at Alden SF and Carmel (still $680 at Shoemart)
Color 8 LWB went from $616 to $645 everywhere
Cigar PTB went from $660 to $690 at Alden SF (still $660 at Shoemart)

I love my 3 pairs of Aldens dearly but their prices have already driven me to buy other brands (AE and Florsheim) of burgundy and black shell. I was hoping to get a 3-4 more pairs of cigar/ravello/whiskey Aldens to round out my wardrobe but at this rate I am going to be scouring the seconds emails

A price increase from $630 to $660 forces you to get shitty $300 florsheims?

Ravello LHS were $626 in January 2011 when I bought them. Then they went to $654 in February 2011. Now they are $684. More than a 9% increase in a 12 month span. I budget to buy 1 pair of good shoes a year to add to my rotation but in a couple of years loafers will be well over $800. That concerns me and may sway me to other brands where similar shoes exist.

And the shitty Florsheims I got were some classic Imperial shells from the 80s with the original V-cleats and 5-nail soles. When you can find them, NOS pairs go for around $200, which is quite a bit less than 975s. Obviously exotic shell colors are a different story altogether since Alden essentially has that market cornered.

Tom, real stand-up guy. You sure you're Hawaiian and not from Brooklyn? I look fwd to waiting for your pre-orders, and please don't take my emails asking about them to be anything more than what they are, not an annoyance but a general feeling of wondrous anticipation that pre-ordering only an Alden model can bring about. I have a feeling I speak for many a SFer when I say that.:slayer:

Only in Farsi (so I'm toast with those guys because I've let my Farsi go to shit since they ran the Shah out of town).

I'm on board but we should probably check his birth certificate before we start a petition - remember what happened last time...

I'm considering a pair of cordovan plain toe bluchers. I'm having trouble deciding whether I want color 8 or black, as I feel they're both awesome. Any opinions are appreciated.

If you have to decide between the two, Color 8, hands down. Versatility being the main reason and they age very well.
