Howdy folks. I just bought my first pair of Alden's: Shell Cordovan #8 Indy Boots with commando soles. I'm very excited to start wearing them. I'd like to ask about this break-in method that I keep hearing about. I'd also like to ask about taking care of them--I already have a pair of shoe trees. Shoe I put taps on these soles? I would imagine not. Thank you.

1) No taps
2) Shoe trees, yes (only Aldens I don't use shoe trees in are my brown leather Indy boots)
3) Use the mac break-in method to make sure they fit and break in well
4) Use the max method for shining. Buy Saphir Renovateur and Alden Color 8 Paste Wax

Indy's are a bit more rugged and structured IMO. That and wedging a shoe tree in there can be a bit more challenging. I put tress in my Chukka boots, but not Indys.

Indeed. I have those shoes in #8 and they're fantastic (style 2160 -- #8 Aberdeen captoe blucher), but the cigar version is on another level.

The cigar version is almost always in stock at Alden SF. I find it is one of my "go to" shoes. But, it is on the Aberdeen last and that means "no go" to many people.
