I usually wear mine with dress socks, because mine are a bit snug in the ball of my foot as well. They'll loosen up a little once you break in the cork under the in-sole.

yeah, Alden's definitely loosen up once broken in. I think it's the cork sole that compresses and molds to your foot, not leather stretch that does it. I wear boot socks with all my boots, even my cordovan ones, but that is in part because my feet are long but thin so most shoes/boots that fit in length end up being a little too full volume to provide a good fit with a thin dress sock.

^ I usually do the same. Even in a narrow width, my Barrie-lasted Aldens are still slightly wide in the middle of the shoe, so I usually end up wearing thicker socks to compensate.

Agreed. I use pitch blend and recommend it, but not on shell. It does a great job on CXL.

Note that it is going to darken the leather a little bit as you use it, so proceed with that in mind. I have also used it to dress the edges of the soles on all my shoes, shell included.

Overall, pitch blend is a pleasure to use. Just wipe it on with your fingers. It has a very pleasant, mild odor.

These are superb. Congrats and enjoy. If I wasn't 3 deep into 2012 shell orders I would have kopped these.

One other product that Horween recommends to condition CXL is Neatsfoot Oil. I just bought some but have not used it yet on my CXL NSTs.

Venetian shoe cream and lots of brushing. Quick maintenance with a microfiber glasses wipe. Shoes will blind.
