I personally think Whiskey shell looks best in the LWB. Without it I'd go with PTB or even the chukka.

I find Whiskey to be the least adaptable color shell. I've owned whiskey LWB, whiskey tankers, whiskey chukka, whisky LHS, etc., etc. The only whiskey in my current wardrobe is a pair of SWB from Tassels HK and I wear them infrequently.

Whiskey should look great with anything tan calf looks good in.

I find whiskey looks great with denim in casual outfits in any format (boot, LWB, etc). Whiskey also looks great with any light or bright chinos - Nantucket red, light blue, white...

For some reason, I think whiskey looks stranger in more formal outfits when the same "tan" calfskin shoe would work great. Not sure exactly why this is.

These look awesome, though I think they are more on the ravello side of the whiskey-ravello continuum than the whiskey side. Alden seems to churn out a variety of shell colors in between "true" ravello and "true" whiskey

Edit - take that back, these have almost none of the red/orange you get in ravello. Pure butterscotch coloring. Awesome pair of whiskey

I am still fishing for a blue suede shoe. Many thanks to everyone who provided leads. I am looking at the Union Made PTB with crepe sole and the Alden NY PTB with flexible single leather sole. Both are on the Barrie last.

I like my Truebalance boots which are a 10.5D. They have just a little extra room to accommodate boot socks. According REguy's last chart, the Barrie is two steps down from the Truebalance. Should I expect a similar fit in the toe box of a 10.5D Barrie? A tighter heel isn't a problem I think.

I urge you to buy those Union Made PTBs in crepe sole in 10.5 to prevent me from doing something I'll regret, like getting a third pair of blue suede shoes. REguy's chart is awesome but I wouldn't use the relative position on the chart as any absolute measure of how much bigger/smaller a last is. I wear a 10.5 Trubalance and Barrie. They're a similar enough fit for me.

I am leaning towards the Union Made already.

not sure what your needs are, but consider that the Alden NY is a single sole unlined suede shoe and the Union is lined, on crepe, likely weighs 3 times as much as the other, and we're heading into spring/summer

I'm debating that too. I would like to do the blue suede chukka but I'm not sure of my sizing in the Leydon. I was thinking the Alden NY unlined PTB would sub, but I am planning to do the chukka in the future. So I'd like to mix it up.

    **Edit**

It's funny though; the photo on the Alden NY website doesn't look like an unlined shoe.

It's like debating vanilla and chocolate - no right answer but for me Ravello is what works in all the situations you describe. And I don't see the tan calf comparison, somehow the flatness of the tan calf finish (matte-like) softens the look. That softness isn't there with Whiskey shell.

Apropos of nothing, Unionmade has turned into a top notch store. My first experience with them was so-so (which supported my irrational bias against buying shoes from a clothing store) but wow are they doing great things. Great designs, great product mix, great service - it's all come together nicely for them.

Here is what I wish someone told me - wait. Give it a few months. Make sure you nailed down the perfect size for your own feet. You will be dazzled by the cordovan and will be hungry for more. Use the time to observe other shoes online and in person. Amass your funds for battle. Despite what everyone says, you can get the shoes you want in the color you want eventually.
