I feel the same way. It is a bit troubling that it takes time to get a last down only to find it fits very differently if it is a boot, shoe or what leather it is made of.

I'm still a bit of a shoe noob, but I've yet to figure out why sizing works the way it does, especially when it comes to sizing differences between the same company's lasts. At which point do they decide that a certain length/width is the size it is? It seems to me the most logical thing to do would be to measure the shoe when its done and determine which size it is from there, which seems like it would give you pretty good consistency across all lasts. I'm sure there must be a reason for this, but unless it's just a "that's how shoe sizing is done" sort of thing I'm at a loss.

In order to achieve the variety of shoe profiles and looks that a variety of lasts allows, some lasts will inevitably end up longer or shorter, narrower or wider. The Alden Plaza last is a very nice soft square toe last (especially with that ram's head medallion on the SF Ravello captoe that was delivered earlier this fall from Alden DC), but I, for one, absolutely cannot fit into the Plaza for whatever reason. The fact that the Aberdeen is such an excellent fit for me makes up for this fact.

As you gain experience, you'll find lasts that fit you well. Because many people only buy one or two Aldens in their shoe noob phase, the easy-fitting Trubalance and Barrie lasts are common across most stockists.

Has anyone picked up the chamois longwings from Leffot? If so, can you post pics? I would like to see what they look like in natural pictures before pulling the trigger.

    Thanks in advance.
