Those Ravello NST look so much better in the above pic than they do on Shoemart's website.

I've been looking for one in cigar on the Barrie last, but I'll probably be looking for a long time.

same thing is happening to my indies... left boot, inside

Not in the same place, but the stitching has blown out at the welt on mine. Alden has determined it is a defect and is 'evaluating' them for repair or replacement. I've been without service of my boots for nearly a month and was told expect another week or two. Inexcusable.

Alden's quality seems to be tanking...I'll likely never buy another pair.

Looking to buy a pair of the Alden Longwings from Leather Sole Hawaii. Does anyone have any recommendations with the sizing on the longwings? I typically take a 10.5D but have heard that these run a 0.5 size large.

It depends on the last. Take a look here as a reference.

Just curious, has anyone else had this problem w/ their indies?

The same thing is happening to my tankers after 2 wears. I stopped wearing them after the back tab broke and didn't notice the thread issue until awhile later. That's 2 defects on one boot. Alden will fix it, but you'll be without your boots for awhile. I'd suggest waiting until summer when you're likely not going to wear them much.

Ask Tom at LeatherSoul, who posts here occasionally. He's very knowledgeable and helpful.

^^ Assuming the shoes you mentioned fit you perfectly, I would recommend a 8 D in the Indys. I own the indys in a 8D which fits me perfectly, and 41 in buttero boots which fit me a size larger than I would've liked.

quick question without going through 125 pages of the alden thread - what is the preferred online retailer for alden?

I know LeatherSoul is top notch - but if it's my first time ordering aldens I need to be convinced I can exchange for sizing and the leathersoul website seems to caution first timers from ordering.

For indy's (trubalance) and any boot on the barrie last, I have to go a full size down from my true size. My foot measure 10d, and I take 9d on those lasts (in both shell and calfskin).

It's really best to try these lasts on if at all possible before buying the boot. I didn't. Instead, I used the half size down rule to jump on a decent deal. When they arrived they were too big for my feet. I could wear the boots quite comfortably with heavy socks, but it's just no fun breaking in a nice boot that in the end doesn't fit you properly. It's now costing me quite a bit of money replacing older boots with those that are properly sized.

Anyone own a pair of these captoe boots in kudu leather?

    http://www.hstockton.com/product.asp?c=4&id=1192

I think they look great (though I would probably prefer them with a plain toe.) I just left a message at the store asking what last they are on. I'll edit this if / when I find out.

No. Unless you're going for one of the standard models, you can't have a "preferred retailer" since they all carry custom shoes.
