So J. Crew is offering 25% off of $150 or 30% off of $250. Most Alden shoes have been left up on the site, so take 30% off of Alden shoes, including the Indy boot. This also applies to various other third-party items.

Grant. I ordered 10E, I wear 10D in Barrie/Trubalance and 10E in Aberdeen. I'll describe the fit when I get them

It's just the way the photo looks. These are on the Grant last.

Yeah, they have a commando sole. I was looking for a boot like this - a bit "nicer" than the normal Indy, Wolverines, and the like but on a commando sole.

I always liked this shoe. I went in to buy this shoe but ended up walking out of there with a different pair of Aldens (pic will be up soon)

Dual? (1) office to (2) church to (3) woods.

Seriously, Aldens don't belong in the woods, hiking, etc. (I think they suck as work boots as well - drop something heavy on your toes while wearing those Indys and tell me it doesn't hurt). Can they survive? Sure. Are they designed for that type of use? No. Are you reducing the useful life of the shoe? You bet. Remember, most people get rich through thrift... :)

Buy a pair of trail shoes for under a $100 (Merrills, Keens, etc.) and keep your Aldens for (1) office and (2) church.

    My 2 cents.

Agreed, with the one exception being the 404s (Kudu Indy with lug sole). That's the one Alden I would consider taking hiking.

But for $450+ you could easily just buy a pair of actual hiking boots.

Yes, by dual use I meant light/normal use like the office or church - and heavy use like hiking. I don't do a lot of physical labor so no need for a real work boot. I just ordered the Tanker boot from Epaulet - I see no reason to baby them - they will be in the woods this weekend. To me a well made pair of boots or shoes should be used, really used. Just a side note - my Dad had two pair of cordovan oxford shoes - one he used for church and formal settings and the other he used for work. He was a short hop truck driver (so he was in and out in all kinds of weather). Those work cordovans lasted 30+ years. BTW I do have Bean Boots for when it gets real cold/snowy.

the j crew sale on their shell captoes make its the same price as those yoox ones. i j crew usually runs 25% promos alot but the current 30% sale is alittle more rare. So I ordered the Alden for J Crew cordovan captoes, I had been drooling for them for ages. Has anyone seen them IRL? are they nice?

Also, I am not sure about my sizing in the Barrie last so I ordered 2 pairs of them in 10.5 and 11. I am usually an 11 or 11.5 in normal sneakers but boots my sizing is all over the place (mostly redwings). Will I be ok with those 2 sizes?
