1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

They were from Alden of DC, purchased last year. Why, do they look unusual?

Is the edging black? Mine have antique edging. Also the welt stitching on mine appear to be lighter, more of a tan color. Mine are from Leffot.

Seems like Ravello goes well with blue...

Leffot makes its LWB with antique edging and a light trim. Alden of Carmel's cigar LWB has the same lighter sole. The "standard" LWB (sold at Alden stores) all tend to have darker soles.

If they are from AofC they are on the crepe sole. Thats why it looks black.

borderline, how do you like the shell on the crepe sole? How is the wear?

They look beautiful. I just have not heard too much positive feedback on that sole.

i've owned 1 pair Aldens and they were super comfortable and very well made, but is that the main draw? There are plenty of well made shoes produced, i dont get why so many are Alden nerds on here.. most of the shoes are not the easiest to look at? why the intense love and obsession for the brand.? enlighten my ignorance pleaseee..

Not sure why you'd want or need enlightenment in a matter of taste.

So anyone have a pair of the ravello day tripper boots to display? (the pic below is of a fairly new out of box pair)

Leffot shows that they may have another run in the Fall, so going to see if I can get on the list

No RTW US company does as good a job as Alden does with shell cordovan. If you're a fan of US construction and shell cordovan the options are AE and Alden. Alden has much more variety so if you're the sort of person that owns 30 pairs of shoes, the chances are high that you will have at least a few pair of Aldens.

Probably because Alden are more affordable compared to most shoes that fall in to what I consider to be "well made" shoes. Hence, a larger following ... but you'll find nerds for all the brands on SF

It is not a crepe sole, it is the normal double leather sole. As for the edging, are there three options? It isn't black, nor is it as bright as the antique. I think these were referred to as natural edging. I'll take a better photo later.

Great collection! These in front (medallion captoe) are particularly nice.

IMHO, high quality, loads of options in make, cool collaborations, good crossover appeal (between "streetwear" and more formal). The point about being the best looking in cordo is a good one (if you're a cordo nut). They are basically the American shoe manufacturer (AEs are not on par). A year ago I didn't have any, now I have five pairs.

This shows the edge (not black!) and the sole (not crepe!) better:

Also, I'm wearing a belt I bought from Epaulet ("Dark British Tan Chromexcel Single Prong Belt") and the color complements the shoes really well.

It's the workmanship, the quality control and the Alden "keep the customer happy" attitude that keeps me coming back.
