Hey guys,
Just purchased those Jcrew Plain Toe boots in tan with 25% off in a size 8. These are my first Aldens...

Did you just buy these now; is there a new 25% off code? Or was this back with the "STAYWARM" code?

1) Where did you get the laces

2) Alden needs to start offering its cordovan shoes in its "sleeker" lasts. I'm starting to like some of the Alden calf and suede offerings more than the cordovan because of this. I'm becoming increasingly less enchanted with how my Barrie lasted longwings and PTBs look with suits and dress pants compared with the Aberdeen last on my tassels and the lasts C&J/RL use for the Marlow line. Barrie seems better suited for boots and for more casual styles like the chukka

EDIT - who wouldn't love a ravello or whiskey version of this shoe, which is on the hampton last:

^ Yes, they will. Last I checked they charge $12 per eyelet, so a typical Alden boot with speed hooks would cost $96 plus shipping (that's $12 x 8 eyelets).

N.B. that I have not done this nor seen the results. If anyone has had this done, it would be useful to see what the finished boot looks like. But if I would trust anyone to do this, it would be B. Nelson.

EDIT: Ahab I actually think Alden will do it if they are already repairing the lacing system on the boot.
I might want to do this with some whiskey indys

I am sorry but I can not recall where I picked up those laces. However, Paul Smith on line has something
similar. These Atoms are on the Tremont last and are Fantastic!!

I had my speed hooks on my Indys replaced after one tore after about a week- Alden replaced for free and I am much happier- here are some old pics:

^ I agree...at first glance its a tad awkward...at least that was my initial take...and yet have never given it another thought as its just not at all noticeable when wearing...

I own a pair of AE Strands, and it's a pretty narrow last compared to the barrie-lasted Aldens you are likely to find at J Crew...there's a chance you may be able to squeeze into an 8D to get the width you need, but the shoe may be too long.
I see you live in Baltimore - go check out Samuel Parker Clothiers and try some on...the owner there is a good guy and will help you out with sizing.

thanks. will try to check them out in the next couple of weeks!

^ Thor I forgot you were the one who had had that done. Those #8 indys are beautiful.

And it's quite a wonder your moc toe and last stitching are still that white. Nicely done.

Those pics are actually a year old...but I am surprised the stitching is still that white- especially since my Indys are my de facto "beater" boot (a $600 beater boot- livin' large I am! :slayer: every time I add a little polish I always get some on the stitching but it seems to come clean...

I will try and get some new pics up soon....

I just copped these Natural Chromexcel Indys with the plan to possibly replace my Roys. As beautiful as they are I find myself liking the plain toe too much to make the switch. Hit me up if you want these (8.5US).
