I think this is taking Alden collabs a bit too far, at least in the marketing department. These boots were inspired by old timey milkmen with their shiny black stompers. It's like they are running out of manly trades (fisherman, sailor, soldier) to associate with their manly shoes. Next up, the mailman's loafer - so sweet, it will seduce your wife.

I would just like to say that my life is honestly better now that I have the Alden suede chukka

Got it in the Tan, the medium brown won't be far away. Would also love a tumbled brown calf high boot as well. The leydon last is perfect for a casual shoe.

Tom @ Leathersoul is awesome. I will be ordering through him for certain.

that's awesome Gosurface, get the Alden commando soles if you can. I am eagarly waiting for the time when I have to replace the standard Indy neoprene soles.

Are the commando soles a significant improvement over the standard neoprene soles on color 8 shell indy's, or is it just a matter of how you will be wearing them?

I recently opted for a pair w/the commando, but it was a tough choice. I like the distressed, leathery, scuffiness of the worn in neoprene (that i have seen pics of, but have never worn myself).

indy and barrie are supposed to be the same fit. good luck.
Yup... you guys are right. Just got the Alden x Winn Perry Captoe and they're 1/2 size too small.
Need to send them back to get the same size as my Indy Tru-Balance. So to re-cap what everyone has been saying... Barrie = Tru-Balance size.

I agree. Those should be $595 tops.

Nice touch with the perf on the edge though!

    Hi chaps,

After giving my cordovan toecap boots a polish I've obviously been slightly remiss in applying the wax to one of the boots and I've got a bit of wax "clumping" in one area; it is a dull wax 'blemish', if you like, covering the area.

I've been applying elbow grease for an hour or more now, and it's not really showing signs of diminishing.

Anyone got tips for getting rid of these black clumps of wax on cordovan?

Specifically they are burgundy (#8) shell cordovan, and I use kiwi cordovan wax.

Dude, are you reading this thread? Any boot on either the Tru-balance or Barrie last should fit similar to the Indy (which is on Tru-balance). Both run a half to a full size large, depending on your foot and how you like them to fit. Best to try them on.

I couldn't remember if it was a half size or full size larger. I wanted to know if the fit compared to any other brands that are easy to get ahold of.

Couple pics coming up...these Aldens are my first real "higher end" boots, so sorry about these questions... Am I walking retardedly, or is this how everyone's heels wear down? It's only been about 3 months since I've had these...is this normal for a heel change already? I didn't think that it would come up so quickly. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] In the third picture you can see that the wear has almost reached the second stack, so I'm guessing this is definitely the time to get a new heel. It's a tru-balance last I think. The heel itself says "tru-balance". I was just wondering how quickly heels wear down, or if it's just because my boots are older. [IMG] Also, as a general question, what is this type of sole called, and how long does it usually last? What exactly are "commando soles" and how are they better than this? Of all the shoes I've tried (leather, rubber, crepe) this type of sole seems to be the best so far... Sorry for the lengthy post, this is a subject I know very little about!
