Can anyone tell me where I can get a pair of Alden dress shoes with the following criteria?

    - Either wingtip, plain captoe or medallion captoe
    - In ravello, cigar or #8
    - In grant/leydon last
    - In size 10D?

I've tried Shoe Mart, Alden of Carmel, Leathersoul, Leffot.. no luck. Either not available for a while, or those particular lasts have been discontinued. Why is everything either Aberdeen or Barrie? Grrr...

Ah, I get you. Yeah, it does seem a bit odd given the issues people have with the cork soles.

You're going to have a hard time finding a place that has any ravello or cigar shell readily in stock in your size right off the bat.

I'm not sure if they still have it, but I recall reading several members got medallion captoe ravellos from Alden of DC? I believe the sales advisor's name is Kathy. And the last was Grant I believe, or something sleeker than Barrie.

I've already widened my criteria a lot already! Thanks a lot! Do they have a website? Google yields me yelp reviews. :)

Thanks, those are fantastic! Silly question, but those are shell cordovan right? I'd love to order something like that.. but on the http://www.aldenshoe.com/ site, they have like 6 models.

^He stated they are ravello so yes, they are cordovan.

When you hear words such as #4, #8, cigar, whiskey, ravello...they refer to shell AKA cordovan.

Edit: You can't just "order" shoes from Alden. You need to have a group of others who are willing to pay for the same shoes as you, refer to the Alden MTO thread for more info.

Also, I'm not even sure if you can order a special product like the rare shells if you don't have a top tier account. I can understand #8 or black shells since those are quite easier to come by.

Even for a top tier account holder, the wait for lighter shells such as cigar, ravello, and whiskey is quite a while. You're probably looking at around a year at this point.

My suggestion is to actually call Kathy the manager @ Alden DC. Kathy is very knowledgable on Alden footwear and great with customer service. Describe what you are looking for and she may have something that you like, and remember that not everything is on the Internet.

^ No Sir. These are Barrie, lined on the double oak leather sole. Solid, sturdy boot. Love the rough out suede

For those of you who have worn Aldens in both the double oak leather sole and the single waterlock flex welt sole, how do they compare? Flex welt is supposed to be more comfortable, but I would imagine single is less comfortable than double leather on hard surfaces?
