1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

any thoughts on this from anyone? I've seen 3 or 4 posts about people buying it, but not much about how it actually works/performs

What is it that your trying to do exactly? Restore the uppers or the entire shoe (soles, welt, etc)? Oddy enough I also purchased a pair of 974s of eBay and I lucked out because they were in awesome shape, and the heel had just been replaced with a cat paw (or was this standard)? The pair also had the original pair of round waxed laces that are stiff like copper.

My pair was "restored" using the Mac method + deer bone. The uppers looks great. Fortunately the soles and insoles are like new so I didn't bother do muh besides applying some sole edge dressing.

Note: the color on this pair is really light for #8. Almost like #4. I should wear this pair more often. Nice shoe.

Btw, I'm at the Vegas airport waiting for my connection to Boise and this is simply torture. I want to NOT go to Boise and hang out in Vegas instead :)

I thought Alden Madison Ave has the whiskey Indy and I know that Tassels HK is getting the whiskey tanker soon.

Looks like someone just had a kid (or went bankrupt).

Since we're on the ebay topic, here's the pair of #8 medallion cap toes I picked up off of eBay, after a good hour of mac method-ing:

Lighting on my balcony isn't the best with a tree hanging over it. Also, still having trouble getting some of the buildup in the creases out, but that could just be because I need to flatten them down before I brush or something. It's way less noticeable when they're not in direct sunlight.

You did a good job on the medaillon area - ellbow grease may not be enough i guess - you need something more magic than a deer bone  for shure :D

I'm wanting to improve the overall condition of the shoe. The sole is still very functional, but rather hammered. The upper has been somewhat mistreated by the previous owner, and wanting to get the gunk off it that's already on and restore it to its potential. The insole; you can obviously feel someone else's foot in there, so to speak, but it's not uncomfortable by any means. I can handle the sole as-is, but I'm just thinking about the future as well.

McCarran is a great airport. Very quick and you can get your last minute slots in too :satisfied:

    Pic from work yesterday -

Quick question. If I wear an 8.5D on the Barrie, what size boot should I go with on the Grant? I was considering sticking with the 8.5D but might also order a 9D. I have gone through the thread and looked at the "lasts comparison chart", but the recommendation of going up a half size on the Grant doesn't make sense to me. The Grant and Barrie appear to be the same length with the Grant running a bit more narrow. Any input would be appreciated.

Yesterday, I tried on the Indy 405, 404, 403 and 401. While they looked great on the pics I've seen on this thread, I just couldn't pull the trigger ... even at $219, the 404 's tempted me, but I just couldn't see myself making them work.

Well today, I made my way to Epaulet and bought their final pair of the Officer's Indy (brown chromexel, tone-on-tone stitching and double-leather soles). I couldn't be happier with my first pair of Alden's. I wore them home and was impressed with the lack of 'breaking-in" required ... especially considering the robust leather soles.

^ The double leather sole will get even more comfortable in the months to come. It's a sole that rewards long wear and good care. Enjoy wearing them.

Wow, you're right. Modified and Trubalance. I hope you can send those back, that simply does not work.

If they are shoes on different lasts, it makes you wonder how they ended up together...:deadhorse:
