I would love to see pictures of the shoes after Alden restored them.
Thanks if you can do it!

namor, those probably can't be repaired. alden should have just told you that. it looks exactly the same as what happened to me. it looks like the leather is perforated and ripped, just like a check in your checkbook. CJ told me, "we fucked up, it happens when the maker stitches the piece too close to the edge or the material was too thin to begin with. we are sending you a new pair." week later they were on my doorstep.

thanks for all the help b. I have worked with Alden in the past and even then I felt pushback from them. ill have to contact the original buyer but I hate to bother the guy.

no problem. both C&J and a cobbler here said they would not be able to repair them to make them look original and CJ was up front about that, which was cool instead of back and forth emails, calls, etc. they even let me keep the damaged pair which i just had the cobbler cement the piece and place a stitch along the side. couldn't really tell they were messed up unless someone was staring at my feet.

bummer, Namor - hopefully SM will help you out or maybe just get in touch with Alden directly.

Do you have access to a good cobbler? That may be the easiest fix. good luck, man.

Just got my first 2 pairs of Aldens in the past few weeks - Brown Chrome Excel Indy boots and #8 Cordovan LWB's. I needed to start with the staples and these seemed like the most versatile. I'm definitely hooked already, and I'm already eyeing up my next purchase. Judging from all the love they got a few pages back in this thread, I will probably go for the Snuff Suede chukkas.

My first nanosecond reaction to reading this was, "Man, that's pathetic."

    Then I was all like:

6 months from now my wife will be going into her third trimester and I'll be flat broke with 12 pairs of Aldens hidden in assorted work supply closets and various downtown bus station lockers. I'll be the most well-heeled homeless man in all of Chicago. :slayer:

Well...thought I would finally add a pic to my favorite thread. Here is some Cigar love for you. My only shells right now. I do have others but this is the extent of my shell (although BB cordovan LHS pennys are calling). Always looking for size 8s.

Thanks everyone for all the Alden info and great pics. JT

Namor - after reading all the free advice, I'd say get back with the seller and everyone do a return and move on.
